My son was born last year on July 6th so this is same time for me. I was told no swimming for six weeks, especially in natural bodies of water because of bacteria that can get into your stitches and cause nasty infections and pools the chemicals can throw off ph balances and have bacteria as well and the same.

Swimming before baby comes will feel wonderful!

Then you need to take a break at least until the bleeding stops as you don't want to use tampons right after giving birth...but you can get back into the water by the end of August I would imagine - and besides, you will be busy with your precious baby in the meantime - so I wouldn't quite say that your summer is ruined!

I think if you tear or if they do an episiotomy where u need stitches then you can't swim, but if not, just as long as the bleeding stops. I plan on my older two soaking me with their water guns anyway so I'm not worried about cooling off ;)

I tore and needed a few stitches. It may depend in what your doctor thinks is best as well.

It must be up to the doc- with my son I had an episiotomy and had stitches and wasn't allowed to do much for 6 weeks. They mentioned no swimming but it was December so I wasn't planning on it anyway. With my second I didn't tear and didn't need an epis. and the only thing they told me not to do was sex- everything else was safe they said.

My boys were born May, June, July, & August. I am due May 12th! I had stitches twice. I swam until delivery & then waited six weeks after each birth. It was hard but I didn't want to risk infection. It does make summer long & hot!
