A recent study published in the obstetrics and gynecology journal BJOG found that, indeed,

I don't do it, but I know I've heard a drink here and there is ok.

Nope. Never for me. I rarely drink as is so there is not much desire to do so.

I wouldnt drink in the first trimester. I'll have a glass or two maybe towards the end of the pregnancy. With DS I missed red wine so much and I actually craved it throughout the first trimester. Right now the thoughts of it turns my stomach.

Not much of a drinker to begin with so I've decided to just skip it completely.

I'm thinking the women in the study continued their drinking post-delivery and therefore simply don't mind their children's behavior.

I don't think I will be drinking any alcohol while pregnant. I did not even drink during the 2WW while TTC. Since it has not been determined what amount is safe, my doctor said to go with the assumption that no amount is safe. It is also the stance of the Public Health Agency of Canada that there is no safe amount or safe time to drink alcohol during pregnancy. They actually directly contradict the study posted, saying "Research shows that children born to mothers who drank as little as one drink per day during pregnancy may have behaviour and learning problems."

http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/hp-gs/know-savoir/alc-eng.php

The first link said that one drink per day reduces behavior problems, and the Public Health Agency of Canada says the opposite, that one drink per day could lead to behavior problems.

I guess I've spent too much time overseas to take these reports too seriously. I've seen French women eating soft cheeses, pretty much everybody in Europe having a glass of wine with dinner, Japanese women doing some serious digging into sushi...etc, etc. I'm not much of a rule follower, and I lie to my health care provider because I don't feel like getting an earful of scolding.

But as for alcohol use, I probably average one half glass to one glass of wine with dinner once a week. Don't feel bad about it at all. As for caffine, coffee turns my stomach, but I'm hopelessly addicted, so it's just one cup a morning to take the edge off the headache.
