It’s hard to imagine we still have to tell employers this today, but here goes: Pregnancy discrimination is illegal.
While it may sound obvious to some, blatant pregnancy bias is still alive and well in the workplace. A pregnant woman who applied for a job at a Subway franchise in Phoenix

Obviously pregnancy discrimination is wrong but yeah it definitely exists. I was just talking to some friends about this the other day. Most employers are at least *smart* enough to make up one of any other number of excuses why they didn't hire you for a job though. Most aren't dumb enough to come out and say "we're not hiring you because you're pregnant." DUH. In today's world that would be just as bad as saying "we're not hiring you because you're black/white/female" etc etc.....

I can understand an employer not wanting to hire a pregnant employee. They're going to need a lot of time off when the baby comes, which depending on the work situation would cause a lot of issues if there aren't many other employees who can pick up the slack for 6-12 weeks. It really stinks for the pregnant woman though.

Yes, I have. 3 years ago I was laid off soon after I returned from maternity leave. Prior to this the employer had asked me if I planned to have more kids, and I did. When the economy turned, he kept the women on staff who were beyond childbearing age, but canned me. Gave me a different excuse, but I wasn't stupid.. it was really about having another child; it was a very unfriendly workplace for a growing family, and my male boss would constantly ask "illegal" questions, such as "are you going to have more kids" or asking when exactly you might want to try to have more. I don't miss that place at all.
