I am wondering if any of you have visited a specialty ultrasound facility to get a 3D/4D scan or if you would consider doing it.

Well, I've had 3D ultrasounds for the last 2 kids and I have one scheduled for this baby on 1/4/12. I know there is some conflicting information out there as to the safety of ultrasound exposure, but I've had quite a few ultrasounds with a few of my kids (including this one), due to needing to watch the pg closely and honestly, they've had no issues. In fact, I have a friend who used to live France and it was common practice to have an ultrasound at every OB appt and her kids are the brightest, healthiest kids I know (not due to the ultrasounds, I'm sure...but you get my point).

I mean, the decision's up to you, of course, but from personal experience, my kids are very healthy.....and the 3D

I went at 18 weeks to determine the gender, only got to see the back of my baby's head though :) He was being too shy!

They are unnecessary, but it's your personal decision. I want to do another one a little later to have a picture in my scrapbook, that's the only reason. I will probably do one with each of my future children, since it's something to add to my memories. If you and your DH really want it, I say go for it! It's something that only us pregnant people get to enjoy ;)

I only wish that DH would want one! We are both such tight a$$ that there is no way we would do it unless it was paid for from someone. Even then we would say we needed something else than that... But I think it would be so fun and neat to see the baby that clearly before she comes!

FWIW, consider where your placenta is. My last pregnancy had an anterior placenta. So, there was a big bloody pillow adding blur to each attempt at a 3D shot. This time around, my placenta is posterior. She faced away during the big u/s with the hospital, but I am uber excited to see her face now. Here's a link to my son's 3D picture with the placenta totally in his face.

We went several different times to get a good shot (they waived fees for bad days) and that was the best we could get.

The clinic I go to actually does both - they do the regular u/s, and they used 3D to try to see his face.
