Doctors have been telling women for years to take their prenatal vitamins during pregnancy, but now there's new reason to start taking them before you even plan to have a baby.

A new study found women who did not take their prenatal vitamins right before and during their pregnancies were twice as likely to have an autistic child, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Taking Prenatal Vitamins in the First Month of Pregnancy Can Reduce Autism Risk, Study Finds- http://www.parentdish.com/2011/05/26/pregnancy-prenatal-vitamins/

Interesting!

I have been taking folic acid for 3 months, but not prenatals. This article has convinced me to go ahead and pick some up, just in case this is the month. Is there any reason NOT to go ahead and start taking prenatals?

I usually take folic acid every day and started taking prenatal for a month prior ttc.

I've been taking pre-natals for nearly two years now, since we started TTC.

I have been taking prenatals for a few months. Every since we started the whole IVF process, maybe in Jan or Feb? I added extra folic acid last month. I also take a Vitamin D supplement. Anything I can do to make a happy healthy baby(ies)!!

I started taking them when we got married. So almost 5 years now. LOL I took them the entire time we were TTC, while I was pregnant with Wyatt, after birth for breastfeeding purposes and now that we are heading back into TTC again I just decided to continue taking them. It can't hurt anything to keep taking them. Especially after all these years. LOL

I read this, too. I started taking my prenatals on CD 1 this month, also the first month of NTNP. I've read that there are a lot of benefits, including increase of fertility, if you begin taking them before getting a BFP.

I've been taking my prenatal vitamins now for just about two years. I started them when I got pregnant with my youngest in Oct 09, then continued them while I breast fed (until this March) and have just kept taking them because I knew we would be TTC again before too long. I did have a two month hiatus in taking them while pregnant because I felt sick but that's about it.

i've been taking prenatals since february, when we started TTC. i've gone days without, but i've been really good lately, which i'm relieved since we got a BFP this week. i found a pill that i could actually swallow even though i'm a terrible pill taker! and the gummies just do a number on me, so they're out!
