Having anxiety!

My first OB appt is on Thursday and I am so anxious about it! We became pregnant and then miscarried the last two months in a row, so I am nervous about this pregnancy. I'm going to ask the Dr outright for an u/s to calm my fears, but I'm not sure he will be willing to give me one! With our very recent history of loss, however, I just NEED that confimation of a heartbeat! I really hope the Dr is understanding of that!

I hope they give you that u/s so you can have some confirmation. I would need it too if I was you.

They better give you an ultrasound! How can they expect you to not stress if they don't? How far along are you?

When can you start seeing the heartbeat on the ultrasound? I hope they do one to reassure you but I hope it isnt too early to see the heartbeat and that just stress you more until the next appt. I totally understand wanting some reassurance though.

In response to when you can see the heartbeat...

The earliest is 5 weeks, but not everybody can see it by then. It depends on the position of the baby and where the egg implanted (I've read higher up babies are harder to get a heartbeat on this early.) I've seen lots of posts from women who don't see one at 6 weeks and the doctor shows concern, but then they can find it at a followup by 7 weeks. My midwife wouldn't do one this week (5 weeks) because she said we probably wouldn't see one yet. I'm overweight, and asked if that mattered, but she said a transvaginal ultrasound won't change much based on weight. I have to wait until my 2 month checkup (9 weeks) for an ultrasound.

Oh wow, the earliest appt I have had is 6weeks 5days, but the ob group i am with now doesnt even see you for your first appt untl between 8-10wks. It is so sad reading the posts regarding losses, never realized how "common" it is and can happen to anyone :(

Are you planning to get a doppler or anything? I have never personally tried one on my own, but read a good bit of people on other boards saying they used them at home. Read your post on your first appt. might get them twins afterall? :) how exciting

I don't think I'll get a doppler. Maybe, if I start obsessing later about heartbeats, but I don't know. I'm about a hundred pounds overweight. I don't think a doppler would do much good against my belly until I was pretty far along. My last pregnancy, I didn't gain much weight at all, and stayed about 20-25 pounds under what I am now. The belly didn't cause any problems then, and we could hear the heartbeat clear in the office at four months, so hopefully it won't be a problem this time around.

So I'm reading this Saturday. Was your appointment on the 29th? Did you get your ultrasound?

Nope, no u/s. But I did get a very long lecture about how I am a bad mother for continuing to breastfeed my 10 month old while pregnant. Long story short, my OB is a jerk! So glad I'm switching to a midwife!
