Alec arrived nov 13th
Sat, 11-17-2012 - 5:30pm

and as predicted he did it in record time.  my water broke somewhere around 6:30pm as i was sitting down to do homework with my 8 year old.  unlike with my daughter this time it broke with a big gush that left no  doubt what it was.   We quickly called my in-laws to pick up the kids for the night and i got ready to leave.  The contractions didn"t start yet so i figured  had a bit of extra time to quickly give the cat its subcutaneous fluids andmeds before we left for the hospital about 20 minutes away.  luckily traffic was done so when we left at 7 we had clear roads. when the contractionsstarted they steadily increased from every 6 minutes to 4 so that when we arrived at emergency an ambulance technician decided to escort me up to L & D. I had enough time between contractions to say what my doctor had me prepare to ensure they would understand the need for speed.  "My water broke at 6:30, this is my 3rd child i am strep b negative and dr seropian wants you to know i deliver fast"  unfortunatly, my doctor was away this week but she is a highly respected dr at the hospital so even if she isn't there her orders were heard.  They wheeled me past triage and directly into a room past a few other women who were obviously not in full labour yet. Within minutes i was prepped and ready for an epidural ( we took the chance that it may not work since i was alreday in full swing but i knew i couldn't do it without meds).  The amniotic fluid was not clear so they knew there was a risk of meuconium to the baby so prepped pediatrics as well.  When they examined me i was already 6 cm dilating as they examined and the baby was face down.  Within a half hour i was 10 cm and they had me go on all fours to see if the baby would turn on his own.  It didn'i happen and since i was feeling such incredible pain and presuure to push they decided to try and see if they could turn him while delivering.  There is no great risk by delivering face down other than greater pain to mom...  which BYTW isn't helped my the epidural.  So when i was finally allowed to start pushing, they had to wake up the attending physician up until then it was an incredible resident.  I started to push and within 4 pushes his head was out and half turned, that's when i lost my focus and complained of extreme pain, Unforunatly i ripped along an old epsiotomy line and the delivery of the body half-turned was excrusiating but luckily quick only another 4 more pushes.  Alec was delivered almost exactly 3 hours after my water broke. He was cleared by pediatrics right away and we are doing well.  Speaking of him, i have to go he just woke up and wants food now...

Tabitha, when my little girl was facing the wrong way that was how mine was. I had no clue why my labor was so hard until she was delivered! If only it was suggested to me to change positions! Hers was my longest labor also, about 7 hours. And I went so fast at the end that my doctor missed the delivery and they had to pull in a different doc from the room next door. Not the greatest delivery. I'm so glad my doctor didn't miss Caleb's delivery!

Wow, that's a story! My guy also came out facing the ceiling and was also my most painful and difficult delivery. At least your nurses recognized he was the wrong way and got you into a better position to deliver, my nurses left me on my back and i had no idea until we were done :( Congratulations and welcome Alec!

Wow, another fast and furious labor! Congratulations on your little guy! I had one of my babies turned the wrong way- I had very bad back labor due to it. Luckily she was so tiny that didn't tear or anything, just had the horrible labor pains. Take care of yourself! Get a lot of rest!
