What's your take?

I don't like the idea of paying so much for something that we have no idea how/if it'll be used. We both thought donating to a bank would be awesome until we found out that those valuable stem cells could actually be used by our own baby if it's not clamped immediately following birth. Now we've done a 180 and have taken a more "selfish" stance. ;-)

Have any of you banked, donated or planned to do so? If not, why not?

I don't think it's worth the cost.  Experts only recommend saving it if you have a very high chance of needing it, usually people with a strong family history of certain diseases who have been through genetic counseling.  And many insurances won't cover the use of it, so you have to have enough money for the usage procedures in addition to the banking costs.  Very few families ever use it.

I'd donate it if I could for free.  But I don't know how to do that.
