Yeah I'm an IV pro now too. Lol. Sooo glad u found better treatment. The metabolism thing is most likely the measurement of ketones in the urine. I'm sure u had 3 like I did. It took me about 5 days to get it down to negative. Flat gingerale, peppermint or fennel tea will help til u can drink regular water. I had to try a few different brands til I got one I liked.
Oh yeah - icing that vein should help bring down the swelling. (I had my IV reset about 3 times because of pain/swelling.)
My doc told me her main concern was keeping down fluids. She approved my meds and encouraged me to take them rather than no meds and no food/fluids. In your case it might be a trade off. You just need to get enough fluids so you can lose the ketones. Maybe your doc can suggest yet another med she feels is appropriate?
I'm glad you found a better ER, the last hospital's treatment plan really upset me. I hate it when ER's dismiss people without actually checking them out. I hope you won't need to go back too many times! But glad you have a place you'll feel comfortable now.
((HUGS)) glad it was a better trip than last time!

I don't really get to talk to a doctor except during visits.
