I loved going to a small school - big fish small pond, ya know? I can't imagine what it will be like DD graduating with something like 500 people if we stay in this district...
A CCLS is often known as the person who runs the playroom in the hospitals. BUT there's so much more to it. Basically our job is to make sure that children stay developmentally on track while hospitalized, prepare them for surgeries and procedures by speaking to them in a way they can understand, and explaining diagnosis in a child friendly way. This is all done via play and medical play. It's proven that children have lower anxiety when they know what is going on and what to expect. I love love love it. Hopefully none of you ever end up with a kid in the hospital, but I highly suggest asking for the Child Life Specialist if you end up there. My favorite rotation in my internship was the ER - talking to them so they don't freak out in the trauma rooms, explaining the IV, stitches, x-rays, castings, etc... They also do keepsake kits if a child passes away (molded hand prints and/or locks of hair), for the parents. Some places have CCLS for children of sick parents to help them process what's going on with their mom/dad.

1. I was born and raised in southern California and lived in the same house until I was 22, aside from 4 college years. 2. I was both special education and GATE (high acheiving) in elementary school. Special Ed in reading and high acheiving in math. 3. I have 2 older twin sisters. I went into labor with DS on their birthday. DS was 29 minutes too late to share their birthday. 4. I have been a spec. Ed. Teacher for 13 years but have a dream to go into speech and language pathology. 5. I hated my husband and 2 best friends when we first met. I have a horrible first impression.
