Natural miscarriage

I am very sad to be posting in this forum. I, like everyone else here never thought it would happen to me. I have one son, 18 months and last Friday I started spotting during my 2nd pregnancy. I am almost 38. By Saturday evening I was haemorraghing and having early labour like contractions/pains and had to rush to the ER. I was 9w and 5 days. The doctor in the ER plucked some tissue that was stuck at my cervix and gave me meds to get the bleeding under control. She said there was some tissue left but it was best to let it be expelled naturally. We came home on Sunday and there was some tissue when I got home. I passed a larger piece on Monday. It was like placenta. Today, Friday, my pad had no blood on it this morning but when I went to the loo I passed another largish piece. It was somewhat sausage shaped but floppy. There was something solid inside at one end but nothing recognisable. I think it was the sack containing the fetus/embryo. I have saved it because I think I'll bury it in the garden. It may just be umbilical cord but even so I think I'll bury it and plant something over it. I'm not sure yet. Perhaps we should bury it in the wild somewhere. I had hoped it was over on Monday after that piece came out. So I was upset to see more stuff today. I spoke to my gyno and she said there was no need to return unless I have signs of infection. I'm just wondering how long this can go on for. I'm passing small clots every time I go to the loo. Light bleeding started again today after that piece came out. And there's lots of stringy red mucus. I'm Irish living in Sweden and I'm supposed to be going home for Easter. I'd like to know this is behind me before I travel. Does anyone know how long it can go on for? I know it varies, but within what time frame? Is there anything I can do to encourage it to complete naturally? I want to avoid D&C if I can. Jade xxx

You're right when you say no one ever thinks they will be the one posting on a board like this.

Hi there, Thanks for your replies. Now all three of us (DS, DH & I) have the norovirus, winter vomiting & diarrhea bug. It couldn't happen at a worse time. Still, it should pass in a couple of days. I have fever, chills and cramps (and the rest) but I think it's just norovirus. Amazing what life throws at you when you're down. Thanks again. I'll let you know how it pans out. Jade xx

Thank you for your support ladies. The norovirus is all gone now and we're all feeling better. Appetites not 100% yet but we're getting there. We've even managed a visit back to Ireland to see my family. I feel refreshed and as though we've moved into a new phase. I hope. The spotting has stopped and it's almost 2 weeks since the last tissue passed out. I feel ok and hope it's all gone. I took a hpt this morning but I'm still getting a faint +. Does this mean there is still some tissue in there? Is it possible to ovulate while I'm having a faint +hpt? I haven't been charting properly for the last week but I started again this morning. I have an additional complication in that I am still breastfeeding my 18m old. He'd been almost weaned but went back to nursing around the clock when the virus hit so I doubt I'll be ovulating just yet. But I'm concerned about the +hpt. How much longer should it take? I'd love AF to arrive because I want at least one before ttc again... I can hear my biological clock ticking away...
