Hi Suzanna,

My name is Holly 28, and I too lost my son on Oct.31 2002 due to placenta abruption @ 38 weeks. I had a normal pregnancy exept for a borderline blood presure 140/90. I was checked for toxemia and I also did the stress test but nothing was wrong..On Oct.31 I woke up having a constant backache..I thought, God this is not regular contractions, it is constant...I got up and suddenly the floor was covered by blood..I was 38 weeks and I called the ambulance and went to the hospital and found out that the placenta had separated therefore my angel had gone to heaven due to lack of oxygen.

The doctors did almost a million tests. everything was normal exept that they found some infarction (10%) in the placenta..and that means there was a blood cloting problem..but blood coagulation is just a sign of something else. it is just a symptom of some other problem...so there was something wrong during the pregnancy which caused the blood to clot but now after the pregnancy it is too late to find what it was.

My doctor told me that on next pregnancy I should start taking something like aspirin to prevent blood coagulation...I hope everything goes well then, since I am going crazy over having another baby...

I hope my story has helped you..and BTW sorry if you see some spelling mistakes b/c English is my second language and I am not in the mood to look at the dictionary.

I am originally Iranian and have lived in Toronto,Canada for 10 years and I moved to Stockholm,Sweden last year so I am all over the place and struggling with learning Swedish at the moment...

please feel free to email me hnezamab@netscape.net

Holly,

Thank you for writing to me. My abruption was a little different. We did not know anything was wrong w/ me or Gabriel until after he was born and he did not take a breath. After the autopsy they concluded that my placenta had seperated. I did not have any external bleeding like you but from the autopsy results they found that there was some clotting. My doctor told me when I get pregnant again they will watch me very closely and will induce me by 36 or 37 wks. I am still very nervous about having another baby but I really want another child. I hope that this never happens again to either of us. Feel free to write anytime. I live near Boston.

Hugs,

Suzanna

Holly I am so sorry you have had to join us. We all know how hard it is to lose a little one. I hope that your stay here at this board with us is short and you will soon get to move to Preg. after stillbirth.

Hi Holly, I just wanted to welcome you to the board and thank you for sharing your story with us. I'm on baby aspirin too this pregnancy although I did not have an abruption. Hope your stay will be short! If you need anything let us know. :) By the way...now that I'm thinking about it...baby aspirin has been associated with a slightly increased chance of placental abruption I thought? I see why they would need to monitor you very closely. Take care.

Love, Robyn
