Disney Travel Asking AKL reserv. to Move

Got a phone call this morning!!!!! The disney Resort Travel is asking AKL residents to move hotels, voluntary!!!!!
We are going July 7- 14th!!! They are asking us to move to Sarratoga springs at a discount and that will give us $600 back to us!
My thought is we have a savvanah view room and we have 3 kids 6yr, 3yr and a son whom is turning 1 on the trip!
Then I called the actual hotel. They will only have 3rd floor savannah view open!!! Floors 4, 5 and 6 are closed!!
Let them know I would call back today! Geesh we booked our trip last september and it is 16 days before we go!
What should we do? Help? Let them know I would call them back.
What other hotel should we stay at! We wanted to stay there for the experience. Anyone just there that saw the construction!

Why is part of the hotel closing? I know they are building DVC villas at AKL but I didn't think they would be IN the hotel. Maybe they are refurbishing those floors.

I think my main question would be are they still going to have the animals in the savannas or are they moving them somewhere else while the construction is going on?

And what about the pool, restaurants, other activities etc will they be at all affected by this.

If nothing will be changed except that the upper floors will be closed I think I would be tempted to stay at AKL anyway.

On the other hand I would love to stay at the Poly - so I would go for that offer.

I think that 2 weeks before you go is very short notice - they must have known for a long time that this was going to happen, it's not as if the construction came as a surprise!

Lori,

I am sorry that this is happening to you at such a short notice, but at least they are giving you a room at another deluxe hotel. I LOVE the Polynesian - the zero entry Nanea Volcano Pool, the easy access to the monorail/water taxi/Magic Kingdom (and the Grand Floridian!), the man-made beach with a direct view of the Magic Kingdom, the lush landscaping, etc. It also sounds like if you stay at AKL you might not have the view you expected. I'm sure you are MAD, and rightly so, but I'm honestly not sure what you can do right now, except to go with the flow. ((HUGS))

Personally, I don't see this as an inconvenience. Maybe a little disappointing, but not really inconvenient. The Poly is a more $$ resort, and you have the added convenience of being on the monorail line. Anyway, better to find out now than to have to be moved mid-trip.

Enjoy your trip...it's Disney....be happy!

Lori,

I am really sorry to hear about the change! I can only imagine how frustrating that would be after you booked a vacation and have been planning it for so long!

I hope your trip is very Magical!!

Oh, Lori - I can see why you would be so disappointed - to have planned your trip for the resort (AKL) and view (Savannah) that you wanted so long ago and then to be told a little more than 2 weeks before your trip that it might not be that way after all :(

From my understanding, the AKL is converting many of the upper floor rooms to DVC villas (they are also building a separate Villas area with additional rooms but this conversion of existing AKL rooms to DVC villas is the first phase).
