Just got back from AKL!

We had a fabulous time. Our room (3343--Savanna view) was perfect. We heard no noise from construction and saw lots of animals every morning and evening. The food at that hotel is outstanding. Even if you aren't staying at AKL, you should eat at Boma (African buffet).

I was skeptical about the whole thing at first--we're not "Disney-type" people--and wondered if our kids would be too old (they are 10 and 12), but now I cannot imagine going with younger kids. The parents of babies and toddlers looked pretty stressed and tired.

We had no trouble booking tables at the good restaurants and we didn't even do this until we'd checked into our hotel. We ate at Boma twice, Chefs de France, Marrakesh, and Jiko. Nothing was cheap, but we never felt ripped off.

The shuttle buses were fantastic. We always got a seat, even when returning from fireworks on the 4th, and never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes.

My kids loved meeting kids from other countries at the hotel pool--that's one advantage to a weak dollar, I guess. :)

Things that impressed us: the cleanliness of everything, the biometric fingerprint thingy at the entrances to the park, how polite everyone was, how well-run everything was, the beautiful vegetation that hides the stuff you don't want to see, the lack of mosquitoes, the interesting climate (gorgeous storms that come up out of nowhere), etc.

Things that didn't impress us: the nasty, nasty tap water--it tasted like sulfur and smelled like chlorine, the over-airconditioned everything, the sad number of severely obese people who had to use scooters to get around, the general disregard for smoking rules. Tobacco should be wiped off the planet.

Favorite rides/attractions: Space Mountain (MK), Soarin' and Mission: Space (Epcot), Crushin' Gusher and Storm Slides (TL), Safari and It's Tough to Be a Bug (AK), Indiana Jones (MGM)

Rides that were a waste of time: Stitch's Great Escape, Primeval Whirl

We'd go back in a heartbeat.

Sounds like you had a great time. WE stayed at AKL our last trip and enjoyed it too - especially Boma! I have an ADR there for our upcoming trip in September.

I agree about the Stitch ride but not Primeval Whirl LOL! we (myself, DH and DD 7)loved that ride and kept getting off to get on again!

We live in PA and we are taking our grandson in October to Disney World. He will be 9 on the 24th of this month. So, we took him to Knoebles Amusement park. In Elysburg,pa. We wanted to see how he would react to riding rides. He had a awesome time. I can't wait to see how he enjoys Disney's high tech rides. He will probably wear us down!

We stayed @ AKL when it first opened (July 02) & LOVED it! The ONLY drawback IMO is the distance from the other parks. We LOVED our balcony & seeing the animals every morning. It was a great adventure!

You can rent scooters if you think he'll wear you out! Reserve them early, though.
