Just got back from AKL!

We had a fabulous time. Our room (3343--Savanna view) was perfect. We heard no noise from construction and saw lots of animals every morning and evening. The food at that hotel is outstanding. Even if you aren't staying at AKL, you should eat at Boma (African buffet).
I was skeptical about the whole thing at first--we're not "Disney-type" people--and wondered if our kids would be too old (they are 10 and 12), but now I cannot imagine going with younger kids. The parents of babies and toddlers looked pretty stressed and tired.
We had no trouble booking tables at the good restaurants and we didn't even do this until we'd checked into our hotel. We ate at Boma twice, Chefs de France, Marrakesh, and Jiko. Nothing was cheap, but we never felt ripped off.
The shuttle buses were fantastic. We always got a seat, even when returning from fireworks on the 4th, and never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes.
My kids loved meeting kids from other countries at the hotel pool--that's one advantage to a weak dollar, I guess. :)
Things that impressed us: the cleanliness of everything, the biometric fingerprint thingy at the entrances to the park, how polite everyone was, how well-run everything was, the beautiful vegetation that hides the stuff you don't want to see, the lack of mosquitoes, the interesting climate (gorgeous storms that come up out of nowhere), etc.
Things that didn't impress us: the nasty, nasty tap water--it tasted like sulfur and smelled like chlorine, the over-airconditioned everything, the sad number of severely obese people who had to use scooters to get around, the general disregard for smoking rules. Tobacco should be wiped off the planet.
Favorite rides/attractions: Space Mountain (MK), Soarin' and Mission: Space (Epcot), Crushin' Gusher and Storm Slides (TL), Safari and It's Tough to Be a Bug (AK), Indiana Jones (MGM)
Rides that were a waste of time: Stitch's Great Escape, Primeval Whirl
We'd go back in a heartbeat.
