Main St Bakery soon to be a Starbucks?

Have you heard about this from the Disney Parks Blog?  I'm sure that the Starbucks will be properly themed to Main Street USA - turn of the century and all but I'm also sure that the HUGE gooey and delicious cinnabuns that we enjoyed in trips past won't be on the menu :(  I like good coffee and all but I think this should have been added to DTD and our Main St Bakery left alone :(

I agree.

I don't drink coffee at all, but can appreciate the fact that coffee has not been great at WDW.   So I understand the need for an upgrade. . ..however,  I think Main Street should be left the way Walt imagined. Made to remember his home town. There was always something special about walking down that street.

If they wanted to add a Starbucks, even in MK - it just seems it could have been elsewhere.  Someone on FB suggested in Future World.  Made sense in some ways.

I love coffee but am really saddened by this.  I totally agree Deb, Main St should stay the way Walt envisioned it.  It goes hand in hand with my feelings on alchohol being served in Be Our Guest.  While I have been known to enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, the traditionalist in me doesn't like it.

The feedback on the Disney Parks Blog is overwhelmingly against changing the Bakery into a Starbucks. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/11/starbucks-locations-at-magic-kingdom-park-epcot-set-to-open-next-year/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DisneyParks+%28Disney+Parks+Blog%29 I have no problem with them offering Starbucks (although honestly I'm a Dunkin Donuts coffee drinker myself LOL) but as many have said on the blog, when you walk down Main St USA you feel like you're in another time and place. Seeing a Starbucks brings you right back to reality :( Still, I'm sure Disney will do a great job with the theming. The blogger kept replying that the menu has not been finalized and some of the bakery's treats will be included but I guess only time will tell. And the Fountainview in Epcot is also closing to reopen as a Starbucks. Curious to see if Disney will take into account people's reactions as they work on this project.

While I don't have any particular sentimental attachment to the Main Street Bakery (don't think I've ever even been there), I do think this has the potential to be really cheesy.

I love Starbucks and all (not a coffee drinker, but I LOVE their hot chocolate), but I hope they don't overdo it with the branding. It's fine to serve Starbucks products, but hopefully you will still feel like you are in Disney World, not suddenly back at your neighborhood coffee shop.

So, I guess I won't form an official judgement until I see what the finished product is like. I'll probably never go in there anyway, as we don't tend to snack a lot in the parks. Hopefully it won't be an eyesore going down Mainstreet though. Of course, they could do a lot to smooth this over by offering Cranberry Bliss Bars year-round, a special WDW perk :)

Did you guys see the update on the Disney Parks Blog today? It looks like the bakery is going to keep its name and many treats will stay the same. The ice cream sandwiches will be at the Ice Cream Parlor and the cinnamon rolls will be at the new Gaston's Tavern. To me, this sounds like a good compromise. It infuses a little something new into the traditional scene...better than what was originally proposed. Kuddos to Disney for listening! http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/11/starbucks-locations-at-magic-kingdom-park-epcot-set-to-open-next-year/

I read that on FB, and agree - nice compromise.

I was following this for a while, and when someone mentioned the way that Starbucks is themed into DCA, I remembered that there are two or three Starbucks locations in Busch Gardens Williamsburg - but you wouldn't know it to walk by. The building has whatever name fits in the themed area (one is a coffee shop in Ireland, I think the other is in England and *maybe* one in Italy) and at the bottom of the sign is the Starbucks siren and small words "Proudly brewing Starbucks coffee." You honestly don't even know it's a Starbucks, so I'm not worried. But, we also don't have an attachment to the bakery. We've always planned to stop and something happens so we don't.

I agree that the theming will probably be done so well that we wouldn't realize that it is a Starbucks so I'm not too worried anymore about the look. However, the Main St Bakery is a staple for us - that's our breakfast go-to place and we have our favorites which will no longer be available there :( We have many a happy memory of eating our gigantic sticky cinnamon buns while watching the Trolley show pass by :(

I saw today that the bakery has opened with a soft opening (and some cool food vouchers!) it looks really well done and wouldn't bother me in the way I originally imagined it would...What do you think?
