Need advice on Epcot resort vs. Moderate resort

I'm so excited!  They finally announced room only discounts for the fall.  Meredith and I took a mother/daughter trip to the Food & Wine Festival last year and loved it!  So we're going back Smile  We stayed at the Polynesian last year and loved it.  However, we did not take advantage of the lovely resort and virtually did nothing but sleep there.  I am still kicking myself about that lol!  I wanted something convenient to Epcot since we'd be going there almost every day.  No Epcot resorts were available, so we chose the Polynesian because we could walk to the TTC and take the monorail over.

This year, we're already having a hard time finding a discount, even though it's been less than a week since the discount came out.  Again, I'd like to have relatively easy access to Epcot.  However, the rates are crazy high.  I could save more than 50% if I stayed at Port Orleans versus any of the Epcot resorts.  However, we will probably go to Epcot almost every day.  I can't decide whether to splurge and be convenient to Epcot (Boardwalk), or save a ton of money and stay at POFQ and have to deal with busses every day.  Any advice?  I have the money on my Disney Rewards Visa, so I could pay for the deluxe room, but I'd have little leftover for food.  Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Isn't crazy how fast the discounted rooms were snatched up this year? I called to switch resorts the day the discount was announced and could not get what I wanted!!!!

This is a tough call...My DH hates the Disney busses and with little kids I do too so in my situation I would say splurge on the Epcot area resort. However, I remember being 12, staying at CBR and using the busses (even though we rented a car to get back and forth from MCO) and having no issue with it. I also never had an issue with the busses as a young adult (early 20's) when I travelled to Disney with friends. The downside of the busses really comes when you close the parks at night and the internal stops within your resort...the actual to and fro isn't bad... Are you interested in renting a car? We find it is much cheaper than the monorail/Epcot resorts to have a car but saves you the aggrevation of the busses...

It IS such a hard decision to make!  I've always hated the busses.  We usually stay offsite because my parents have a timeshare and always drive because it's only 9 hours.  But with it just being the 2 of us, I am not driving and we need the extra time since it's a short trip.  I really don't want to rent a car, but I do want to get to the parks as quickly as we can; I hate waiting lol!  I don't see us closing ANY park, so that's not an issue.

I guess it also comes to down to the fact that I really, really want to stay in a deluxe room Smile.  However, I need to be more logical and realistic and decide if it's worth sooooo much more money if I think we won't be spending much time at the resort.  Decisions, decisions.

I know you said you didn't want to rent a car, but I think I might be considering it in your situation. Especially if you could still come out way ahead by staying in a Mod. I honestly wasn't THAT impressed with YC/BC - for some reason it didn't seem to have the same "wow" factor that Poly did. I haven't spent much time at BW or S/D, but from what I have seen I don't think I'd be willing to pay a huge cost difference to stay there. (In fairness, we did get a REALLY good discount at YC last spring, for whatever reason, it was the most discounted of any of the resorts so it came out to be only a small percentage more than a Mod)

Another option if you go with a Mod would be to try the busses, and if it's too frustrating, just take a taxi, especially when you are in a rush. If you wanted to go into Epcot the "back way" for easy WS access, you could take the cab to BC/BW instead.

But all the said, I agree that it's a really tough choice!

Thanks Jaime.  Definitely food for thought.  If I could get the Beach Club, I'd do it in a heartbeat because we LOVE that resort!  I remember reading your trip reports and was surprised that you weren't overly impressed.  We stayed in a villa the last time, and years and years ago, I stayed in the hotel with my parents.

I think if dh and ds were going with us, I'd splurge again.  But since it's just the 2 of us, I guess I will be smart, save money for food and miscellaneous stuff, and then we'll have more $$ for our next trip Smile.  The travel agent did tell me that this fall discount has the most limited and restrictive offers she has seen Frown

M'Shel, I had a similar conversation with my travel agent about the limited availability of both the RO discounts and the FD discounts... She was on hold with Disney for 90 minutes the day the discounts were announced to change my resi, then we decided to change again and she couldn't even get through the second day!!! I felt really guilty about having switched not once but twice! AAA probably has a note on my file that I am indecisive and a pain in the rear end, lol! She said this reminded her of booking Disney discounts 20 years ago, but nothing they had seen recently!

Can't wait to hear what you decide! I really like the look of PO so will be interested to hear about it if you go that route...

Well, now I'm waffling back to Boardwalk LOL!  I'm trying to talk the guys into going with us but not going to a park.  Mitchell is dying to go because there's a paintball tournment going on nearby, but he needs Ken there to rent a car and take him lol!  So, he is considering it.  That's a big deal since he said he wasn't going back to Disney until we have grandchildren Smile

So, on the off chance that they do go, I will most likely book Boardwalk tomorrow.  That is, if it's still available!

Now, to find some reasonable plane tickets Smile
