DD & I just got back yesterday from Disney and had a great time.
Hi, Lynn. I stayed at the Pop in a preferred location with my in-laws last Aug/Sept. We had 3 rooms for the 8 of us and were right in front of the Bowling Pin shaped pool (50's section). The rooms are small but it was just me and my then 8yr old nephew in my room. My BIL/SIL and their 2 girls were in the next room and my MIL/FIL in the 3rd room.
I really liked the timeline in the lobby/check in area and so many memories came to mind when I looked at the memorabilia from the 70's and 80's. We went in the pool each day during our afternoon break and it was nice. The walk to "Everything Pop" (food court) was quite short. We ate breakfast there each morning and there was a variety of food. My SIL is diabetic so she did have a more difficult time (during the whole vacation in general) finding food to eat. She had the Frittata most mornings for breakfast. I am not a hot breakfast eater so I typically grabbed cereal and milk. Upon further reflection I wish that I would have skipped breakfast all together and just had juice. Being on the DDP and having a LATE start to the day (being a large group that stuck together the ENTIRE trip) I often wasn't hungry for lunch or dinner and barely ate. This is something that I took into consideration when setting up my trip for December.
I digress.......we didn't use the busses so I can't help with that. Since we had 8 in our party my MIL/FIL rented a full sized van to get us everywhere.
If you have any questions let me know and I will be happy to answer them.
We love Pop.
DH and I stayed at Pop in February, and it was fine. Nothing awesome, but perfectly fine. Our room felt like it was in Egypt the first night; we arrived at almost midnight after flight delays due to snow and a horrendus, awful, horrible, turbulence-filled flight that left me literally sick for almost an hour on the plane. It may not have been the room that was the problem that night, I think I was still feeling terrible from the flight, and tired. Did I mention it was COLD the whole time we were there? Don't think it made it out of the low 50's, and it was windy and rainy.
The next morning, we found a shortcut through the parking lot to the main building, and it was fine. We were in the 80's section, in the back of what I do believe was the furthest building; BUT, when we stepped out of our room, we could see the "Welcome to WDW" sign that stretches across the highway, that was really cool!
We had no problems with the resort. It was clean, our room was very clean, the CM's were nice and friendly, no problems with the busses except a long wait at MK close one night; that's going to happen at any resort, really. The food court was fine, although I liked the selections at ASMovies better.
All around, we do prefer ASMovies to Pop, but it's just a personal preference, Pop was fine. We're going back to Pop in 10 days, I'll post another report when we get back, hope that will help you.
If you have specific questions, ask away!
You are comparing apples & oranges. I love the Swan, we will be there in less than 2 weeks. But when we go for quick trips we almost always stay @ Pop. The food Court there is really nice for what it is and the decor is really fun. It is also conviently located to the Parks. You will not find heavenly beds or coffee or a mini bar in the room, but it is very Disney & fun.
Yep! When we were there in Feb there was a hairdryer on the wall that I used every day. I saw an ironing board and iron, but it's vacation and I didn't go near them.
They've been in every WDW room we've stayed in (ASMo, CBR, Pop)
We just got back early this morning from a week-long stay at Pop. I was a bit hesitant, but we needed two rooms because my Mom came with us. Two years ago, we stayed at All Star Movies with my Mom (2 rooms again) and liked it OK.
I have to say that we really enjoyed Pop! We stayed in the 50's, the Tramp building, facing a courtyard. We were on the 4th floor and it was a great location...very quiet, not far from Classic Hall, and close to the bowling pin pool. Actually, close to the Hippy Dippy Pool too. My Mom especially enjoyed the theming, and since it was her 60th birthday, the 50's theme was great for her!
I was totally impressed with how clean the outside of the buildings are, including the landscaping. Every day, they were pressure washing sidewalks, icons, etc. Our rooms were a little bit on the beat up side...my mom's room had a hole in the wall near the bed, and the showers had a little bit of mold in the corners. Mousekeeping left a little bit to be desired too. But given it's a value resort, I didn't expect a whole lot.
The food at the food court was very good...we had breakfast there a few times, and dinner last night before we caught the ME bus.
The CM's were great and very helpful, and they had organized activities in the lobby for the children. My DS's joined in a bowling game, and won a couple of prizes.
The gift shop there is HUGE...very nice and well-stocked!
The bus service was fine. Pop doesn't share busses like All sTars do, so that worked out well. We didn't wait long for busses at all...our longest wait was for a Magic Kingdom bus, and that was maybe 15 minutes.
I took a lot of pictures of the theming. Once I get them uploaded on Snapfish, I'll post the link.
