Port Orleans French Quarter...Questions

We just decided to go to Disney World in June. I found this board about an hour ago and have been reading and reading. I was thinking about staying at the French Quarter and now feel very good about the reviews I have been reading here. Is there any special room or view I should ask for? Did you book directly with the hotel? For those of you who just stayed, did you get a special price? This is our first trip and I'm so excited!!
Anything else I should know or do ahead of time? Is it best to book the air and hotel separate? Or should I do a package? I will be reading here every day until I go. What a great place!

When are you planning to go? there's a special package for Aug 26-Sept 22 that 'goes live' on Thursday.

As for booking, you can do it through the disney website, you can call 1407WDisney or you can have a Travel Agent book it for you.

We really enjoyed Port Orleans French Quarter.

How many are in your party? How old are the kids? How long are you staying?

Sometimes it's better to book airfare yourself, sometimes Disney has a great price on it. But Disney only books airfare with certain carriers who may or may not fly out of your desired airport. So know the basic prices for flights from your area and ask Disney to give you a quote with air. If you know the carrier and flight # you want they can quote you that flight as well. Honestly, with airfare I think it's easier for a client to book that themselves. Things happen to quickly with it. One day it's a great price but maybe you can't get ahold of your client and then it's gone, or the price is right but the time isn't what they wanted as a first choice so you have to hope to get ahold of them, and they need to talk to their spouse, or there's a great fare but it requires a layover or some weird flight pattern (once they wanted me to spend 8 hours on a plane going from Orlando, to Atlanta to Dallas and THEN to Norfolk, VA only to save $50 when the direct flight was 3 hours.).... Whereas if you book it yourself, you can make those decisions in an instant.

Hi!
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm still reading all the good info posted here. We are thinking of going on June 14 and coming home on June 19 or 20. It will be me, dh,and my daughter who will be 7 in July. From what a friend tells me...I want to get the tickets that let me go to more than one park in a day (hopper pass?). It is soooo much information. I'm a bit overwhelmed right now. Thanks for your help.

Hi Sue - congratulations on your trip! You're right it is soooo much information, but you'll be amazed at how smoothly your vacation will go with a little planning!!

We really enjoyed our stay at POFQ. I don't recall which building we were in, but it's a relatively small resort, so I don't think you can go wrong with any of the buildings.

We've always booked our own airfare - if you're comfortable searching the airline web-sites for flights I think you're more likely to come up with a schedule and fare that fits your needs if you do it yourself rather than leave it to someone else.

Good Luck!

We stayedin Building 4 both times in a room on the front. We were 2 minutes from the bus stop! The second time we requested building 4 and the gave us a great room on the 1st floor. That building was about 3 minutes from dining place and check in and 4 minutes from the pool. I am hoping we get that building again this year!

Thank you for posting all those pictures! The place looks so nice! I was a bit nervous since I read some negative reviews. How soon do I need to book my hotel? We are staying June 14-19ish. Do I have to hurry? I'm sure I will have more questions later. Thanks again.

If you're going in June, I would go ahead and book now, you'll definately need to make your dining arrangements now.

I'm really confused about all the dining. We were planning on eating something in our room for breakfast, a big lunch in the park and not sure about dinner. I was going to bring snacks into the park. We are not doing a dining package. I'm so new at this...what do I need to make dining arrangements for? I'm almost embarrased to ask that question. I have not read anything yet on eating/dining. HELP! I would like to eat at some memorable places for my 7 year old daughter. Any suggestions?
