Is 1 day at Disneyland worth it?

Hello--I've been debating on whether or not to take my 5 year old to Disneyland for one day. I would love to be able to afford to stay for 4 or 5 days, and I would love to go in October (before the 50th anniversary celebration ends) and I would also like to go in December (because we have not seen Disneyland with the snow and holiday decorations. It just kills me that everytime we see a Disneyland commercial and his little face lights up with excitement and he tells me that he wants to go. I am a single mom making just above minimum wage and not getting child support. Like everyone else, I have bills and rent to pay...not to mention that I am also going to school too.I really don't have $ for this but I was curious that if by some miracle I was able to afford at least a day there, would it be worth it? Would I be able to squeeze everything in in one day? Should I just wait and save that way we could stay longer? Not to mention that we also have to deal with the crowds and all.(I would travel by car to get there.) I tell him that we need to save $ for it, but what if by the time I save it, he has outgrown it and no longer wants to go? Thanks a bunch!

Of course one day at Disneyland is worth it. When I was growing up we always went just for the day. Of course back then there was much less at the park than there is today, and there was no California Adventure. But, I suggest what the last poster did, skip California Adventure and just concentrate on Disneyland. If you get ahold of one of the Disney tour books (like the official Birnbaum guide) it will give you suggestions of a one-day tour plan. Or you can use the Disney website and check out which rides and attractions you think you want to do and kind of map out a plan.

If you are a southern California resident there are sometimes deals on admission. That information should be on the Disneyland website as well. Have fun!

I went Sunday of Memorial Day weekend last year and rode a good portion of the rides. (although I was by myself so I could move faster). I only had one day and wondered if it was worth it and I am so glad I did indulge myself.

Disneyland is more compact than WDW, you'll definitely be able to enjoy a day in the park. Take advantage of his young age and go on a weekday when older kids are in school and you'll have smaller crowds.

You can definitely do Disneyland in a day.

I took my 78 year old grandmother back in 1999. She had never had the opportunity to visit either Disneyland or WDW. The sparkle in her eyes at the age of 78 brought tears to my eyes. We had a wonderful time and saw most of the park that day. So whether you are 2 or 75 just take a day and enjoy the magic of Disney. I will have that day as a memory forever.
