Advice on raingear needed

We're heading to Disney this summer and I'm wondering what everyone recommends in terms of raingear. I'm assuming taking an umbrella into the parks is useless. How much do the Disney ponchos cost? Do they have kids and adults sizes (we're travelling with an almost 4 year old and a 6 and 7 year old)? If you get the cheap ($1'ish garbage bag like) rain ponchos at Target do you need a new one everytime it rains?

I personally prefer a waterproof (make sure!) windreaker with hood & baseball cap for the "afternoon" showers, but they don't do much good during downpours (actually neither would a poncho in that case). As long as you don't plan to sit on any wet benches, the windbreaker, I find, works better than a poncho.

The ponchos sold in the park cover the same amount of area as the cheap $1 ones, but they are a bit thicker. You can actually save them between trips, but you know how nasty things can get when they're wet (mold & mildew). I don't remember how much they are now, but I think they're still under $10 (last time I bought one it was $5 for adults, $3 for kids, but that was over 10 years ago and I know they've gone up a little).

For an umbrella stroller, I always brought in a kitchen size garbage bag, poked 2 holes for the handles in the bottom of the bag, and put it on upside down. Our stroller had inadvertently gotten moved out from under cover while we were in Carousel of Progress (20-25 minute show) and the water was SITTING in the seat part of the stroller (I'd say about 2 cups of water), but the stroller itself stayed dry, so that was a relief.

Nicole,

We bought the .88 Coleman from Target. We only used them once. Amazingly enough I was prepared to throw them out at the end of our trip. The five of them folded up nicely and are in a 1 gallon ziploc bag waiting for our next trip. The children used the same size we did.

The Target Dollar Spot also has Adult and Kids ponchos in Red, Blue, Green and Yellow right now.

We were there last August and it rained every day. I had an umbrella that we kept in the basket of the stroller and used it a couple times during downpours. The only other thing we bought was a hat for me, because the rain was getting on my glasses and I couldn't see. It also solved the frizzy hair issue!

As someone who has been there ALOT (over 100+ times) I do not recommend umbrellas. To me, they are a pain, and a hazard just waiting to poke and eye out. They also aren't that convenient. The ponchos at Disney are a heavy clear plastic with Mickey printed on the back. Adult ponchos are $7, child ponchos are $6. If they should rip or anything while on vacation, you can exchange them for a new one free. I have used mine now probably close to 15 times, including during hurricanes for the last two summers. Well worth the cost for the heavier plastic that you can re-use a bunch.

Thanks as that is great info as its nice that they will replace them if you should ever rip them and the cost is not that much as it would be well worthit to buy them there
