AP's...Room Discount Question

How discounted are the AP room rate discounts? Are they usually for the values or do they include all hotel levels? Are the number of rooms totally limited?

Trying to weigh options (many, many options) for our future visits. The more options I present to DH, the more likely he is to go more than once.

Hi Sarah,

We live in Florida and are annual passholders. The annual passholder rate is for all levels of resorts and the passholder rates are better rates than Florida resident rates (since I usually check both). The offers are presented on the annual passholder page 3 or 4 months in advance, so if you are looking to book way in advance, you may not see the special posted.

The offers are great IMO. We stayed at French Quarter last April with a pool view for about $100 a night and we have also used offers to stay at DVC in a Deluxe Studio for $159 a night during the summer.

However, you will not get any specials for dining packages besides the DDE card.

Hope this helps- Ashli

It should be noted that AP rates are never garunteed (sp) and they could be minimal. They are also pretty limited at the resorts like other discount codes. So if you're considering an AP *just in case* of discounts then it's probably not a best buy. If the math works out to where it's the same or cheaper to get an AP for 2+ trips withing a 12 month time frame, then the shopping discounts, DDE card, free parking, few dining discounts, and potential room discounts could be the deciding factor.

AP discounts can be as much as 40% off the room (can be less also) and yes, they are limited. They have been available at all levels of resorts, but not always across the board. A few months back there was a discount that was only available at a few resorts, and they seemed random, lol, there were 2 DVC properties, 3 deluxe & 1 mod. Then there was also a disocunt that was only good at the values.

With an AP, you can't book a package (unless you want to pay for a 1 day ticket as well). That means no dining plan and you'll have more than one card to keep track of which is generally not an issue.

With an AP you will need to make sure that the last park day of your last trip is within 1 calendar year of the first park day of your first trip or you won't have enough ticket to cover your trips. Ex - last year we purchased our APs and activated them on Dec 12. This years trip(s) had to end before Dec 13 becuase my AP expired on Dec 12. All that really means is a bit of extra forethought in your planning, and if your planning requires taking kids out of school, you may get frustrated if the school calendar for next year isn't released when you need it to be. Or worse, if it changes.
