Arrival day help! Which sounds best?

We are going to be driving from Ohio, about a 14 hour drive, leaving home around 9 pm, or whenever kindergarten graduation is over. We plan to arrive by noon at our resort, and DH does work 12 and 16-hour midnight shifts so this shouldn't be too much different than normal. He normally goes to bed after lunch but will be sleeping all day before we leave.

Either way, we'll check in, swim, rest, hang out at the resort first.

Plan 1
Hit AK for the parade, then go to Boma for dinner, maybe mini-golf in after dinner.

Plan 2
Whispering Canyon for dinner, then over to FW for the evening. Watch the EWP, do the campfire, or whatever we find.

Plan 3
Chef Mickey's for dinner, then over to the MK for the evening, keep in mind it might be EMH as it's a Friday of Memorial Day weekend (it was this year).

Thanks for any input!

Steph

I would go with plan 2. It's still fun, still relaxing and you won't feel rushed by a schedule, and if you're really beat you won't have that teeny tiny voice in the way back depths of your head saying you 'wasted' a day on your park tickets. You also won't have to keep that sideways eye on your husband making sure he's 'alive awake alert enthusiastic'. :-) Those long monotonous drives seem worse than working when you're moving around.

You never told us his reaction (or lack of) to your casually mentioning things to him about spring.....

I had thought about the extra day for tickets, but I think I'm going to go ahead and get the extra day just in case. The difference (at 2006 prices of course) is a whopping $8.54, so I figure it's better to possibly waste that than either have two (four???) upset kids that want to go to a park for a few hours, or worse than all, have to pay for a 1-day ticket for each of us. I'm sure it won't be the most money wasted on this trip!!! Not really wasted, but you know what I mean. If $8.54 is the worst of it, we did great! Some of it will depend on DH and how he's doing. If worse comes to worst, I'll just put him on a bus back to the resort and the boys and I can do whatever if he's that tired. Right now he's used to sleeping about 4 hours a day, and he isn't able to sleep much more than that if he has the time and stays in bed. That may change, as he's only got 3 more weeks of class.

I'm leaning towards WCC and FW, but I really want to eat at Boma, and I don't know where else it will fit in. Of course, I still have 342 days to go, but Ive started playing around with park days and such. For some reason this trip isn't falling into place like the last two have, I think the changing EMH is throwing me off, plus Memorial Day weekend. Ah well, what a pity to have these kind of problems for the time being.

I did mention to DH about the cheerleaders/dancers/value resort nightmare, he called one night when he was on break at class and I told him I had just saw it mentioned on one of the boards. He didn't really say much, just "yeah, that might not be a good thing" and went on. Of course, I couldn't see his face, and that would probably give it away. I do know he bought plane tickets, but I don't know the dates and I'm not going to dig around to see. It wouldn't be hard to find out, but that's not fair to him. I just hope he's not really messing with me and taking me somewhere else! THAT would be a good one on his part.

I swear, your Isaac has been around mine or something. Mine is a little clown too! He comes up with the funniest things, and says them with the most serious look on his face.

Right now I'm planning for 8 nights/9 days; that may change, depending on the prices and if I can save all the money. DH absolutely does not want to stay any longer than that, but we need to start on a weekend, and he doesn't want to travel any more into Memorial Day weekend. Which means we leave here on Thursday night and arrive sometime on Friday. I'm thinking if I play around with it enough, I can work everything in that we want to do. I'm trying to put together a rough idea though, so when the new packages come out (would they hurry up already???) I can start planning for real.

Hey, Steph! I tend to agree with the others that you might not want to do a park on your arrival day but I also agree with you that the difference in park tix at that point is not so bad; it might be worth it to have the tix just in case that's what you all really want to do.

One ADR per day, thank you very much Val!! *grin* I can fit Boma in on our AK day, but only if I dump Donald's breakfast, which we really do like, plus it puts us in the park early. My other problem with that is that we're probably going to need a break at some point that day, and AK seems so far away from anything else (we're staying at Pop this time, I think) it would be hard to leave after lunch or so, return to the resort, then go all the way back out there just to eat. LOL, such problems, I tell you! We usually only go to AK one day, but I thought by doing the parade and Boma on our arrival day, that would take care of that. We'll have the same problem staying in that hot oven of a park all day for the parade.

Thanks for the tip about walking, that's probably how we'll get there from WCC also. We usually make our dinner ADRs for around 5 or so, would that give us enough time? It's also going to be Memorial Day week, so I'm thinking the Campfire might not be until 9, but I can't remember if it's usually 9 in the summer and 8 int he fall/winter, or if it's 8 and 7.

DH is not much help, he says he gets confused when I ask him about the trip this time. Hmm.....wonder what HIS problem is???? *L*

I have to say if you don't mind using your park tix for less than half day (or just a few hours worth), I like your idea of going to AK for the parade and then eating at Boma's.

Thanks for the walking tip! I'll write that one down to remember, I thought it would be better to walk.

I don't mind using the park day for just a couple hours, that's going to be the only day I'm buying it for, and it isn't much money. I'm going to *try* to talk to DH about both plans and see what he thinks, but I may wait until closer to time, as not to confuse him. I just don't see any other way that we can see the parade in the afternoon.

I had to laugh when you guys were talking about trying to talk to your DH's about the planning.
