Back with Water Park Q

Okay, here's my new question. I found yet ANOTHER unofficial Disney website, and some posters on that forum said that they didn't do the Water Park in January because the temperature was too cool.
Is the water at the parks heated? I am thinking that unless the air temperature is around 87 deg. or higher, it would be too cool to really stay there much. (Getting wet on a ride is different; you either dry off or can change into dry things.)
Now I know my family is a bunch of water loving swimming loving kids, but none of us wanted to go in the unheated outdoor pool at our motel during Christmas week just a few weeks ago -- and it was much warmer than usual. We visit my in-laws, about a half-hour south of Tampa, almost every year during winter break, and only one other time was it as warm as it was during this visit. But this time, it was warm up until the day we left, where in the past, it was only that uncomfortable the first day.
Tampa and Orlando are not that far apart so as to affect the weather all that much, usually.
So now I'm wondering if I should just forget about the Water Park option tickets. That is, get a shorter stay ticket with less options. And if it turns out that they want water, there ARE 2 heated outdoor pools at our hotel. After all, with that water park option, you can only go to the water parks one time, right?

In peace,

I personally think that Jan. is too cold.
Well, I have to disagree with the pps. We just went in January and went to Blizzard Beach twice! The weather was pretty nice, though - in the high 70's/low 80's. We weren't cold at all and yes, the water is heated. We were planning to go anyway as long as it was in the 70's. Of course, being from the northeast, we are used to swimming in cold lake & ocean water. I absolutely love the Disney water parks and usually make time for one visit every trip. The theming is better than any other water parks I've been to and I find it a nice break from touring in the other parks.
As far as the actual tickets go, you could just wait and add the option on once you get there if you're not sure. The number of times you are allowed is dependent on the number of days on your base pass. For example, we had a six day park hopper with water park fun and more pass and we had 5 visits each. Also remember these visits are good not only for the water parks but for Pleasure Island, Disney Quest and Wide World of Sports.

Carol,
That is good to hear (sorry if hijacking from original poster)! DH and I are going from Dec. 22-Jan 1st and are also from the North East. I wanted to book two days (out of our 10 days) to go to Blizzard Beach and other "options" from the Water parks n' more.
Max,
I think this goes back to personal comfort and preference. We were there in January and there was a day that it was in the 80s. I would have been comfortable swimming in it. Just do what you think your family is comfortable with. We did see people there on our trip and they didn't look miserable.
You obviously have never met MY DD LOL!
The two water parks at WDW are her very favourite of all the parks. She would be happy to go only to them and nowhere else no matter what the weather.
I swear that girl was a fish or a polar bear in a former life!!
