Best time of the year to visit WDW?
| Fri, 06-15-2007 - 1:35pm |
We live in Florida AND DS is not yet in school, so we can go to Orlando for a weekend w/o a problem. My questions is, when is it the LEAST crowded? I have been told that when school is in session is the best time to go visit the Magic Kingdom. Any suggestions?

I think the best time is early - mid September (after Labor Day.) The temp is still nice and warm so you can swim/do water rides/etc. but the crowds are all gone because the kids are in school (and even those parents willing to pull kids from school for a Disney trip usually won't pull them the first few weeks of school.)
Enjoy!!!

I agree--we went in Sept for our honeymoon and it was definitely hot & miserable (and I'm from Louisiana!). We'll probably never choose to go in Sept again.
Our favorite time is early December...but we haven't been since 2002, so I don't know if it's still as uncrowded--I've heard rumors that the Pop Warner Super Bowl makes it really crowded at that time.

Hi Ruth,
Here's some info from allearsnet on historical attendance.

I don't know the age of your DS, but they are offering the Magical Beginnings again this fall from Aug 30 -Oct. 28.
Our favorite time to go is in May. We've been twice now over Mother's Day week (the Saturday before to the Saturday after) and it was PERFECT. Weather has been great and crowds were low.
We've been in mid-June (rain rain and more rain), September (HOT HOT HOT) and 3 times in October, but before all of the MNSSHP stuff started. We did used to like October, but I think it's much busier now than it was 14 years ago!
For past trips, we've pulled the kids out of school. From now on though, our trips will have to be when school is out. Our oldest will be in 7th grade, and he just misses way too much now in middle school.

DH and I went the first week in December, and it was beautiful. The longest we waited for anything was 25 minutes to ride Expedition Everest. The days were high 60s/low 70s, and the evenings were pretty cool. We would love to take the kids out of school some year and head down at the same time again.

lol, we must've been there in the only Sept that wasn't hot? Well, I mean it was hot, but it wasn't July/August hot! We went on the 13th, so maybe it's becuase it was a touch later in Sept? I dunno. We we expecting summer hot, so maybe it's what you go into it expecting? It felt good to us because it was hot enough to want to ride water rides and go to the pool, but not so hot we felt like we were melting.
FWIW, we went last year in December (1st week - got there a week after Thanksgiving) and I'll never do that again - it was REALLY cold and windy for 2 of the 5 days we were there, and the other 3 days it was still a bit on the cold side, but not as windy. The biggest issue was that we hadn't brought the right clothes for that because the forcast was totally different from what we actually got. But I think even if we had been dressed better for the weather, the cold, biting wind in our faces would've been uncomfortable.

I've been twice in July and Sept wasn't much better, if at all. In fact, one day, I wore a swimming suit with shorts (looked like a tank top, and I was MUCH skinnier then--couldn't get away with that today!).
But, since it was our honeymoon and just the 2 of us, and we'd been before, we were able to do it a leisurely pace--with breaks and everything. So, it seemed better, but I honestly think it was just as bad as July. We were there the 17th to 23rd.
Now, we've never been in December when it was COLD...lol. We went in '99, it was GREAT--highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s...PERFECT!!! We fell in love! In 2000, it was bit hotter, but since we went the year before, I packed NO shorts for Aly & me and we ended up stopping at a souvenir shop to buy Aly shorts (no place in Disney had shorts) and the lady told us that the week before everybody was buying sweatshirts because it FROZE (it was in the 30s the week before and it was in the 80s that week!). In 2001, it was hotter than I ever expected it to be in December! I mean, not July or Sept heat, but hot. High 80s. Then, in 2002, the temps were like '99, but we had downpours the entire trip. We got there on Sat, but didn't do parks--started raining Sunday and didn't stop until we left!
