Best time of the year to visit WDW?

We live in Florida AND DS is not yet in school, so we can go to Orlando for a weekend w/o a problem. My questions is, when is it the LEAST crowded? I have been told that when school is in session is the best time to go visit the Magic Kingdom. Any suggestions?

We've only ever been there in the September/October period, so I can't add anything about any other time of year.

The first time we went it was middle to end of September and in between hurricanes, the weather was hot but not oppressively so and we didn't get any rain (just lots of wind LOL!)

The second trip was a bit later, end of September into October and while it was still warm it was also quite humid and we got short tropical downpours everyday - they cleared up fast though and everything dried out quickly.

I would say the crowds were lighter in the earlier time slot, this was probably in part due to the hurricanes, the later one was around MNSSHP and Free Dining so it was busier but not too bad really

This year we are going back in the middle to end of September again, hopefully no hurricanes this time!

Well, don't ask us--we're completely mad to be going the first week in July, when it will be hot as Hades and possibly at risk for hurricanes. But I don't like pulling the kids out of school; they don't get out until the 19th of June and even later in some years. So we'll just deal with it.

But my general advice is that if you have a choice to go anywhere in the world, go when the majority of childen are likely to be in school.

Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions. Like I said in my post, since WDW is just a three hour drive for us, we don't make too many plans. We always buy the one-day one-park ticket with our Florida resident discount when we arrive at the park. More than anything, I want to visit the Magic Kingdom with him before he turns three (and save some $$$) but I also want to avoid the crowds. We figure that we have three available weekends between the end of summer crowds/Labor Day weekend and his bday on 9/25. We are not interested in doing MNSSHP b/c I'm not sure how he would react to it. I really don't want to pay extra for a ticket to only find out he's so scared we have to leave! But I did find this info regarding events for toddlers/preschoolers and I think this is just what we are looking for!

Little Ones Magic Hour
Add extra magic to your Little Ones Travel Time visit by being one of the first in the park during Little Ones Magic Hour. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World® Resort hotel can visit Fantasyland® an hour early on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from August 26-October 28. Many of your favorite rides will be open, and you may even get the chance to play "Peter Says" with Peter Pan or ride with Stitch on Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
