>>Typhoon Lagoon begins its annual winter closure on October 28. It should reopen in January 2008, when Blizzard Beach closes for its winter break.<<
I read this on themouseforless.com. Does this mean that Typhoon Lagoon won't even be open during Xmas week? If so, our only water-park choice is Blizzard Beach? Anyone know from experience?
TIA, Disney rockers :D.

I know they usually close the waterparks one at a time for maintenance etc during the winter months, the schedule may be on the WDW web site - I don't know if they would have both parks open during the Christmas rush, but if TL is reportedly scheduled to re-open in January it seems unlikely they would open specially for Christmas week.

Well the "kids" in our group at the time of travel will be dd22 & her boyfriend22, dd20 and dd15. Dh & I are NOT into the thrill attractions; I think he & I might not even stay with them that day. If we did stay, I'd hope there would be a wave pool where we could body surf, or something like a floating pool where we could just hang out in the water a bit. At most of the water parks we've seen, there are lounge chairs as well. Dh and I are REALLY good at watching, as in, "Mom, watch me do this!" ROFL.
IMO based on several years of travel to the Tampa area during the same week, if the pool is heated, even an outdoor pool, the kids are fine even if there's a breeze. But the only one who can deal with a "solar-heated" pool is the "baby" LOL.
Thank you for the BB info!

Check these attractions out... http://allearsnet.com/btp/bb_06.htm
Personally, we did both water parks on our honeymoon in Sept and I much preferred Typhoon Lagoon, but, honestly, the reasons I had a preference of TL over BB has to do with the heat we were experiencing. It was HOT! We got sunburned at BB, but not at TL. Our feet burned on the hot cement at BB, but didn't have a problem at TL. And there was a lot more shade at TL than at BB, but, at the time, BB was brand-new. We went in '95, and I think it opened in '94. Others have reported in the years since that it is more shaded and the cement in more bearable.
So, without the heat, we probably did a lot more at BB (except for the snorkeling with the sharks, which I didn't do well with anyway...lol). Late December, even if it gets warm (upper 80s), you will not have to deal with the extreme heat (high 90s) that we did.

The worst weather we've ever had to deal with that week (besides last year's constant rain) is humidity, but because the temperature's more moderate than a Philly summer heatwave, it's bearable, especially outdoors.
Last year, MIL kept turning her a/c UP and I was SO uncomfortable the entire week, after a few days, I told dh I would rather stay at our motel than face another hour in her hot-box she calls her home. She says she just doesn't feel hot, but maybe she's used to it. I like a/c and need it to cut the humidity indoors so I don't start an asthmatic episode.

Was it just constant or was it downpours? Did you get flooded at any of the parks?
In Dec 2002, it was downpours/flash floods and, to my surprise, Epcot floods!! We were walking in ankle-deep water. It was miserable.

And yes, the humidity can be quite unbearable without the AC cutting it. I'm sorry you were so uncomfortable.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that we were at DW.
MIL & FIL live in a retirement community 30 minutes south of Tampa, and we've taken the kids that last week in December most years since the in-laws moved there about 8 years ago. Y'know, that's when school's out, so they might miss a day or two once or twice, but not much more than that. We've always said we should do Disney one year, so this is the year for it. Dh bought a timeshare last fall, so that clinched it.
The rain was fairly constant, light to moderate, but rarely flooding-type except for maybe 20 minutes to a half-hour every few hours or so. And the days were mostly overcast too, last year.
My kids wear flip-flops most of the time anyway, so they wouldn't care if they walk through rain unless it's slippery (although they could stick an extra pair in their backpacks for the parks, or maybe walk barefoot?); I wear TEVA sandals and they're waterproof too, in fact I took them to work last year one week when we kept having flooding I had to wade through to get to my office LOL. Although I'm planning on having an ECV at DW, and dh wears sneakers, he'd be miserable too & if I couldn't use the ECV ... I'll be miserable too! Ankle-deep water sounds horrible now that I think about it tsk!
