I planning on making my reservation for 9/30-10/4 very soon. As of now we plan to drive there. I plan checking flights to see if fares go down to a reasonable amount for us. If we did fly then the dates could move up a day as it will take us 2 days to drive. Once my reservations are made can I move the dates a bit?
A non related question about the food plan. When I get my quotes online it does include the dining plan at no extra cost since there is a special going on. But I see that the deal is only till Sept 30th. Surely that doesn't mean that we only get the food plan for the first day and then the rest we are on our own??
Next ? Are the character dining included in the meal plan?. It says one sit down meal but unsure if we could use the character meals as our sit down meal for the day.
Next ? is about the insurance. I bought this up on another thread. I'm still hestitant to pau the $120 for insurance. It seems that most of the insurance coverages concern flying such as $ for bags being lost or late, also the only way to get out of going is for major medical problems or if one us dies. I thought I saw that if I did make my reservations now that I could cancel within 45 prior to the trip. I don't think I needed insurance to able to do that plus I didn't think there was any restrictions on why cancelling if 45 days prior. But if needed to cancel would I get my $200 deposit back?
Sorry for all the questions. I do thank you for the help.

I'll let someone else answer about moving dates because all I'm aware of is you may not get the same discounts if it's after the discount has expired and you may have to book a one-night room only and move rooms. I'm also not sure about the refund. It used to be that that money could just be applied to a later trip if you booked with WDTC.
The dining plan DOES include character meals. There are some table meals that require 2 table service credits each...CRT, California Grill, Hoop-De-Doo, etc.
If the quote is rack rate and not discounted, then the price does include the plan, but I don't know if you automatically get the plan if you book online if it doesn't say so.
If your reservations start on 9/30, you WILL get the plan for your entire trip.

I'm not sure what insurance you're talking about. If you get it through WDW with your package, it covers your WDW expenses; I don't know about airfare. If you don't have it, and anything comes up and you can't go, you're out what you paid for your package. You can cancel before 45 days and get your deposit back, if you cancel at 45 days or after, you're just out. We had to change our dates because of hurricane Jeanne; we left 2 days early. WDW didn't have a problem with it (but it was because of the hurricane if I remember right), but the airline charged us $100 a ticket to change--$400 total--that was not covered under our trip insurance for what reason I don't know (DH took care of it and I didn't ask).
As far as the free dining special, I THINK (please correct me if I'm wrong) you have to check in by 9/30 at the latest and it's good for the length of your trip. BUT, if you push your arrival date back because you are driving, and you arrive on 10/1, you don't get the free dining.

As far as insurance goes, I think if you book your airfare through Disney and use their prefered providers, your airfare is covered under the insurance too. I think.

Your reservations can be changed or moved only as long as there is availability at the resort. If for ex you are currently checking in on 9/30 but have to move it to checking in on 10/2 you could hear that your resort is full if no other guests are checking out that day. It shouldn't be a problem but you should always make your new reservation before canceling your old one. They can't just push your days over, it becomes a new reservation. Though they can sometimes add a day or drop a day w/o doing a new reservation.
To copy from PDF, do you hit "select text" first? That usually works.
On a newer version of Adobe, it's a T with a "cut out" box. I forgot what it looked like on the older version, but when your cursor was over it, it said select text.

Thanks all for the great info! Thanks to the cl for all the refund $ amounts if cancelled. It's nice to know that were not out everything if we need to cancel prior to the trip. I assume those quoted amounts were for those with and without the insurance. As much as many of you recommend the insurance and for good reason, I do love a good gamble ;)
Learn something new everyday!
Our state's standards and benchmarks used to only be in PDF (now you can get them in PDF, Word, or HTML), so I learned it in my first methods class. You can do that on the "free" version of it (the reader).
We also just got the full version for Mike's work. We can even scan straight into PDF...pretty cool!
