Carry-on questions

Now that I have our SIX yellow ME tags in hand, I'm trying to plan on packing our carryon as light as possible...except for the basics, of course!
We'll have swimsuits in there, as well as a change of clothes for the afternoon/evening (particularly since we'll be sleeping all night in our travel clothes on the overnight flight!)
Then it hit me: I need more info about the regulations please? Stupid as I might sound, I hadn't thought about the needing-sunscreen-in-our-carry-on issue! Does this 3-oz limit apply to toothpaste, too? Anyone have a good link to all this info?
Also: I know we can bring our EMPTY water bottles in our carry ons (I plan to put my "park gear" in there, just in case we do decide to hit a park on arrival. So that would include water bottles, waist pouches, etc)...BUT can we fill them up once past the security check before boarding the planes, or do we have to completely depend on the airline for hydration during the flight? (!)
21 days to go and getting to the nitty-gritty of planning :)

Any liquids or gels (including toothpaste and roll-on deoderant) are limited to 3oz. Recently when I flew they were even checking lipgloss and lipstick. For specifics, look on the NTSB site or your local airport. Most airports have links to the restrictions. Here is one...

As far as water bottles... you may bring empty bottles thru security and then fill them once thru security and before you board the plane. I have done this many times.
Good luck packing.

Any gels, lotions, liquids, etc. MUST NOT exceed the 3 oz per item limit. In addition, every "liquid" you take has to be in one quart-sized ziploc bag. When you go through security, you have to have this ziploc out of your carry on bag to be checked. We just got back from Disney, and I carried travel-sized bottles of hand sanitizer, sunscreen, toothpaste, hairspray, lip balm, etc. in my carry on so that we would be prepared to swim and go to dinner while we waited for ME to deliver our checked baggage.

This is always my biggest stressor, worrying about everyone's carry on bags being OK through security. It's a real production with 4 kids, a laptop, a stroller, etc. getting through the scan painlessly. One year we were randomly selected in Orlando to be pulled aside and searched completely (including down the pants, under the shirt, all bags opened), and I still want to cry thinking about that. We had so carefully packed the kids' carry-on luggage, which was busting with souveniers, and the security folks sure made a mess of things (bless their hearts....I AM glad they are there for us). It took forever to pack back up, and the kids were in tears. Here's hoping you have a spectacular experience that is the exact OPPOSITE of that. LOL!
I flew to New York City this week, and I noticed quite a few people trying to get through security with full-sized bottles of liquid or gel products that only had about 3 oz. of product left in them. That doesn't work so well! The container has to be small, too. Just thought I'd point out the obvious here in this post, since I saw this happen a few times at each airport. :)
