Carry-on restrictions

With all the restrictions on carry-ons, are we allowed to bring snacks in plastic containers on the plane?...I'm thinking cheerios and other types of dry snacks. I have checked out the TSA website and can only find restrictions on liquids and gels, but not on actual food items.
Thanks,
Christine

Food is fine. I read somewhere that yogurt and gogurts are not ok. Drinks are ok if purchased on the other side of security. You just can't bring them with you thru security.
When I flew with my kids I packed them lunchboxes with sandwiches and snacks. I bought a few water bottles near the gate, and they had drinks from the in-flight service.
Hope that helps.

When we flew home, we had to really fill up our carry on because we bought more stuff than we planned. And I was surprised when we got hime that we didn't have any trouble with security. We had our gels in the clear ziplock, of course, but packed away in the nooks and crannies of our four carry on bags were boxes of cereal, empty mugs, cereal bars. They kept the screwdriver though on our way down (hidden in a pocket of my daughter's skating bag we were using as carry on - ACK).
We bought bottles of water once we got past security - drinking water during landing was the solution to my kids' ear issues.
