Contemp or POFQ?

We are going to Disney in Sept with my DS (23 months). I have reservations for POFQ, but now I am thinking I might want to be on the monorail. DS will need to take a mid-day break and I was thinking the monorail might provide quicker transporation than the buses. However, I am not sure how you get from MGM and AK from the resort and vice versa. Do you catch the bus at the hotel or do you have to take the monorail to the transportation center? I have stayed at Disney several times, however never at a monorail resort. Would it be worth the extra $700? DH and I are not swimming in money, but we want to do this right :) Our next visit will not be for a few more years. :( Thanks for your input!

We have stayed at POFQ twice now. I like it. I didn't think it was that long of a walk to the Bus. I am not familiar with the Resorts with the monorail. I would assume you can get a bus to the other resorts, like MGM or AK from the main park entrence. We are taking our grandson in October. He will be 9 in July.

Hi. I haven't posted here, but just wanted to give my 2 cents. We stayed at POFQ two Julys ago, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else, for a monorail or not. We have 3 children, and our youngest at the time was 13 months old. It was the most pleasant vacation experience ever. The buses were SOOO convenient and comfortable. We always got seats on the bus even though it was the busiest time of year. No matter which building your room is in, you're just NOT too far from the bus station because the resort is small. Then there is the place itself - so relaxed and laid back and clean. The pool was never too crowded, no matter the time of day. And then there are the horse and buggy rides, the beautiful river, which we followed to the wonderful restaurant at Port Orleans Riverside, and the ferry to downtown Disney, which my husband and older son enjoyed the most because of Disney Quest.

Just my 2 cents...hope it helps. Enjoy....

The extra $700 is so worth it in my book to stay at the Contemorary.

If you are at Epcot or MK and kid falls asleep(if you are brining your own stroller) all you do is wheel sleeping child on and off the monorail and straight to your room.

I'm with the 2 posters right before me. We stayed at POFQ on our last trip and didn't like it at all. Not only is it not on the monorail, but we don't like the rooms having outside entrances & having to go outside just to get to the gift shop or lobby (when we stayed there it was REALLY cold.) Also, it doesn't have a good sit down restaurant, just a quick service one.

We are snobby when it comes to our Disney vacations, though, lol, we like to do the best of everything. If you're going to do Disney, why not do it all the way, right? Anyway, we will be at the Contemp. or Polynesian on our next trip, we love them both.

For many families $700 is a LOT of money. For us it was a choice of POFQ (which is a moderate hotel) or 3-4 extra nights in Disney. We chose the latter, and I know my kids were far happier with that choice. And like I said before we had a 13 month old at the time, and it was a wonderful, uncomplicated experience for us.

Sorry if I upset you, my answer wasn't meant as a personal attack. The original question was whether it was worth the extra money, and the option wasn't given to do the contemp or add extra time, so I was just offering my opinion.

For us, there were just enough things we didn't like about PO that it would be worth the money. I think if the OP didn't have the extra money available, she wouldn't has asked if it was worth it since it wouldn't be an option, right? And honestly, if I didn't have the money to do the centemp, I still probably wouldn't stay at PO again, I'd look into the other resorts in that price range.

Like yours, that's JMHO.

Oh, none taken at all. It's funny how different people can have such differing opinions of the same thing. I honestly can't remember a better hotel experience, and I really mean that. I remember the last day feeling just as sad as when we left a 5 star hotel in Venice on our honeymoon! I know, sounds weird, but I guess that's just Disney magic. And I can't tell you how many people I've talked into POFQ, even people who've stayed at deluxe resorts many times.

It's all our humble opinions that make the world go round I guess!!!

I stayed @ POFQ about 10 years ago and would not go back. It is the only time I have ever complained @ Disney. IMO I really do not see much difference between the MOD & Value resorts. IMO if you want a step up from the values the Swan & Dolphin are the best bet. Now The Contemp I have not stayed at since I had to start paying for hotels myself! LOL My sister will be staying there Thur thru Mon for the 1st time as an adult (also has not gone there since Mom & Dad paid for it LOL) She will be there w/ her 2 sons almost 5 and 16 mos. She picked it b/c of the monorail. I like the boats @ the Swan for Epcot & MGM + you can take the boats or walk to The Boardwalk. Hope that helps.

I think it may have changed just a bit in 10 years. And if you look at reviews on most travel sites (Trip Advisor, etc.), you will see that the concensus is that POFQ is a very reasonably priced, well maintained, low key resort with a wonderful pool (great slide), very convenient bus service, and beautiful and well maintained grounds. In fact, most people who have stayed at both POFQ and value resorts (myself, for instance) would agree that there is NO comparison between the 2.
