Contemp or POFQ?

We are going to Disney in Sept with my DS (23 months). I have reservations for POFQ, but now I am thinking I might want to be on the monorail. DS will need to take a mid-day break and I was thinking the monorail might provide quicker transporation than the buses. However, I am not sure how you get from MGM and AK from the resort and vice versa. Do you catch the bus at the hotel or do you have to take the monorail to the transportation center? I have stayed at Disney several times, however never at a monorail resort. Would it be worth the extra $700? DH and I are not swimming in money, but we want to do this right :) Our next visit will not be for a few more years. :( Thanks for your input!

I've stayed at both recently. We really enjoyed both and didn't feel that we were missing or giving up anything on either vacation. POFQ is very small so you're not far from anything at all. There's only one bus stop and 9 out of 10 times you're the first pick up and the first drop off. *one* time the trip we stayed there we were the last instead of the first. :-) And of course that was the time that we were pushing our time limit to get back for ME.

When we stayed at the Contemporary they had not redone the rooms and you could not have paid me to stay in the wings. They were old, mildewy and gross. So we splurged and stayed in the tower. (ok the fall deal of buy 5 get 2 helped! lol )

The bus service was what we found to be nice since you are the first stop on the run so you can usually get a seat. I personally like POFQ. I'd like to try the Animal Kingdom one but it is more money. For people with todlers, I would think that the Contemporary or the poly would be good because of the monorail.

Personally speaking, AKL was the BEST resort we've ever stayed at. The only reason we won't go back is because it's so darn far from everything else and that means it takes a while to get to and from it. However, the gorgeous atmosphere, live animals on property, fabulous restaurants and awesome restaurants make it worth it to stay there at least once, it was an incredible experience! The best part for us was having the animals right outside the room. We spent several mornings eating a room service breakfast on the balcony so we could watch the animals eating their breakfast. It was SOOOO peaceful and gave us an amazingly calm start to each day so we weren't in that "rush" that it's so easy to get into when you're at Disney.

JMO, of course!

i have nothing really valuable to add, i am just enjoying reading everyone's input!

a friend of dh's just got back from DW and he and his dw and 2 dds stayed at POFQ. they loved it! his daughters are 5 and 7 so transportation/convenience wasn't *as* much of an issue as it could be for toddlers/infants. we are going next week, and since we have a 2yo and an 8mo, we are staying at a monorail resort (Poly). it is most definitely a splurge/treat for us $wise, but for *us* the convenience w/ 2 young ones is worth the expense. we won't be able to do it again for at least a few yrs, so we are splurging now. i haven't been to DW w/ kids yet, so i can't speak from experience about getting around w/ kids, naptimes, meltdowns, strollers, etc... but in my imagination i think that being on a monorail w/ easy/quick access to MK and Epcot are key factors. i'll let you know when we get back how the expense/convenience w/ babies factors weighed out!
