Are any of you members of the Disney Vacation Club? I'd love your feedback as we're considering joining. Both positives & negatives are welcome! Thanks so much!

Sorry so late in responding to your question. Yes, my family are DVC members. We joined in 2003 after we took our first family vacation and stayed at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge and paid regular rates for a 1 bedroom villa. We were spoiled with all of the room - a separate bedroom with a King, sleeper queen sofa in the living area, big bathroom with Jacuzzi tub, full kitchen (incl full size fridge/freezer) and our favorite amenity - a washer/dryer! LOL We signed up for a meeting with a DVC rep on that trip. My husband is in the hospitality industry and manages a fractional ownership property (similar to Disney's version of a timeshare) so he had an idea of how DVC would work. We did not sign up at that time - at home, he made spreadsheets calculating how much we spent on our trip compared to how much we would spend if we bought into DVC, factoring in increases in the annual fee, increases in regular rates, how often we would visit, how long our trips would be, etc. And while he determined that we could "break-even" eventually on the cost of the rooms vs. the cost of the DVC, he knew that we would also be spending money that we wouldn't normally have spent (transportation, tickets, dining, souvenirs, etc.) Still, we found WDW to be a magical place, were extremely pleased with the service and amenities at the resorts and found that joining DVC would be an investment in wonderful family time. It is a huge financial commitment - we were fortunate that he had received a great bonus at the time and we were able to buy into DVC without having to finance it. If you can swing the cost, we feel that it is definitely worth the money. We feel that once the initial cost is paid, the amount that you pay in annual fees is much less than what you would pay for a villa as a regular hotel guest - in essence, you are paying value rates for a DVC villa. We also get a discount on annual passes ($100 per AP at the current time); there are some dining discounts but they are not extensive. If we buy APs, we are eligible to buy the Tables in Wonderland dining discount card - for $100, we get 20% off most table service and some counter service restaurants, including alcohol. The card is good for slightly longer than a year and that usually covers two of our annual Easter trips - so we more than get our monies' worth. You can also use the DVC to stay at other Disney theme park resorts, the Disney Cruise Line and their property in Hawaii, Hilton Head and Vero Beach as well as resorts around the globe. This was a big draw to us b/c we felt that if our kids "outgrew" Disney, we could still use our DVC to take family vacations. Well, we brought our girls up right - they love Disney as much as I do (I think my husband gladly suffers through our Disney addiction LOL) so we have not yet used our DVC anywhere other than in WDW. But we have been blessed with many happy trips and made many wonderful memories. We have also been able to share our DVC points with family and friends who have been able to travel with us as we can comfortably fit in a 2 bedroom villa. We have actually added to our initial points and now have 3 different home resorts. When the girls were younger, we would be able to take them out of school and take shorter trips (long weekends). Now we take an annual trip around Easter for about 9 days, staying in a 2 bedroom. My girls feel like WDW is truly a home away from home - we are all so comfortable there, enjoy every trip and count down the days until the next one arrives (currently at 111 til our April trip! LOL) If you have any specific questions, I'd be glad to answer them for you!
