Hi Fellow Disney lovers!
My name is Meg and I live close enough to the *magic* to hear the train tooting during the day and watch the fireworks everynight from my home. I visit the various parks practically every single day. I am not a Disney employee, I do not and have never worked for the Disney Company in any way,so I will not be able to offer help with the more technical topics of conversation. I am just a local mom of four who loves to roam about the kingdom as often as possible. I will be more than happy chat with you all!

Hi Meg
(I typed this and I don't know why it didn't post) oh well, let's try again.
welcome to the board, my name is Lisa, I'm married with 2 children, an 8 year old girl and a 3 year old boy. we all love disney so much.
I've been in 1975, 1989, 1990, 1992, '94, 96, 2000, 04, 05, and going again in august 06. I often say that i would love to live "in disney".
I'm so jelous you get to go daily! yay for you.
I didn't realize that homes were built close enough that you can hear the train whistle blow. very cool. now are you close enough to walk or do you have to drive?
that's so cool that your kids go to the barber shop so often.
Hi!
Great ages for the kids to be able to visit WDW!
We actually went to WDW for the very first time 3 years ago. Our youngest was then 13!
We had such a blast that we also wanted to live in WDW, lol! When we returned home from our vacation, I began to research florida online and soon found out about Celebration, a neighborhood that was, at the time, actually owned by the Disney Co.! wow! I thought that sounded great. Well, we finally relocated to florida 2 years ago, and we didn't end up in Celebration, which is very lovely, but not really "for us". We rented an apartment first to see which areas matched our family best. From our apartment, we could see the lights from DownTown Disney and we called them the Pixies,(we really are goofs, lol!). Anyway, long story trying to be short, We found a new development that was not even cleared for building when we first moved here, and the perfect home for us! It is close enough to walk, if we wanted too, it would take probably a half hour to walk to the Contemporary, I am guessing.
BUT, I would never risk my life and walk on these roads, the drivers here in Fl. are by the majority really, really horrible! No turn signals, practically on your bumper and speeding the entire time! The Disney Cast members are especially bad, lol! It is true!
Hi!
I am so excited for you and your family!
We have been here for 2 years now and the first year was with all of the big hurricanes and then last year was a bit different from then, so I am not really too sure what to expect myself this year, lol! What I do know about this summer so far is that there has not been as much rain or lightning/thunderstorms at all. Infact, we are in a real drought situation, the ponds and streams are way low right now. Usually, there are the afternoon rain and thunderstorms begining around 2 pm, they are often heavy, yet they are intermitten, one minute pouring and the next blasting sun. Animal Kingdom and MGM get more rain than the MK.
It is best to do as much outdoors stuff in the morning and then in the evening after the storms pass. I would suggest buying and wearing those rubber clogs or some all rubber flip flops, as your shoes will get soaked and not much fun to walk around in. Wear swim shorts and tops that dry off quickly and bring some little cloths in your back packs to dabb off with and bring or buy some rain ponchos and dont leave them in the car, lol! Also, a great thing to have an use here are the clear, see through plastic backpacks, they are water resistant and the sercurity checks go much faster when the security guards can see what you have and not have to dig and dig through your bags. Then just go for it, unless there is thunder and lightning, Disney can be a lot of fun in the warm rain if you are prepared! The humidity is what gets people drained, if you are used to high heat, then that will not be a problem. Just hydrate a lot and if possible use lightweight clothing and hats instead of too much sunscreen which clogs the pores and makes you sweat more and does not allow you to breath as much, and also stings the eyes if it sweats off of your forhead! Also, it is my personal opinion from experience that you wont need bug spray in the parks, they are so well sprayed already, that I have not seen flies or other flying pests at all, even in the early evening hours. So, hit the parks early and be prepared to perhaps get wet and just decide to be a kid again and splash in the rain on Main Street!!
Meg
I wanted to live in Celebration! We've visited there, It's nice.
doesn't the tourist traffic drive you nuts.

Hi and welcome fellow Floridian!
Welcome to the board my name is Carmen I live in So. California. We're goign to WDW in Jan of 2007 and we can't wait. I used to live in Fla when I was younger and went to the MK many times but that was before any of the other parks were open. I have 4 kids 22,20,16 & 2 , the oldest lives on her own. I absolutely love Mickey we go to DL everytime we get a chance which is not often enough.

Thanks Meg for your wonderful information...I appreciate it! I've got our poncho's set and ready...I had heard they would be needed and assumed that was correct, just wanted to know if it was an occasional spritz or a heavy downpour!!
We're counting down the days....we're almost to July and then IMO, it's downhill from there! We've got something scheduled every week until our trip which will help the time go by quickly!!
~Another quick question for you....will probably sound strange I know but....if you're spending the day(s) at a park, what type of shoe do you suggest? I typically am a flip-flop gal when at home but know they don't offer much support and such. I did buy some Lands End water shoes (look like tennis shoes) but am scared to death about blisters and that my feet will be like an oven!! (thought I'd toss some ff in the bag to take, just in case. Figure even if I pull them out a few times throughout the day and swapped, I'd be okay...???) What about the kids? Sheridan has crocs, Gage has some Lands End sandals that he could wear...they can get wet and all. ??? TIA!
