This year my husband and I couldn't justify paying more for our flight than our vacation, so we are going to drive to WDW.
We live in Ohio. Has anyone else made this drive? Do you have a favorite route or any tips?
We have driven from IL and plan to drive again next time we go.
I know the 2 main routes everyone seems to take is I-75 or I-95 depending on where you can connect to those routes.
It takes us 2 days, we just leave really early (around 3 or 4 AM) the first day and get the bulk of the driving in since we are near Chicago, we take a route that goes through IL then cuts over to TN/GA and hop on I-75 that way.
Since you have a young one just make sure to plan stops along the way to get out of the car seat and stretch, etc....
Julie (if you check this) - I was wondering what part of the Atlanta area you live in?
We've not driven from that direction - but do drive every year.
We were just in Atlanta last week. We went to the Georgia Aquarium Thursday and the Center for Puppetry Arts Friday (Aly is into puppetry, especially Jim Henson).
We became members of the CPA and will be driving back in the fall for Aly to do a workshop.
Then we drove down to Disney. On our way out of Atlanta, we drove past the Morrow sign. One of the Muppet Show skits is about going "To Morrow" today and yesterday, so we got a big kick out of that. Then we saw Chili's, so we decided to go "to Morrow" last week to Chili's..lol. It was actually Mt. Zion (??). I told Aly bring her camera just in case the Chili's sign inside said Morrow, then she could prove she went "to Morrow" on July 2. Afterwards, we stopped for gas, but couldn't turn left so had to do a bit of a u-turn and happened just upon the IMAX theater. So we ended up staying to watch Eclipse, and then got stuck in rush hour traffic (about an hour to get just a few miles). After that, it was smooth sailing all the way to Disney.
hey I saw on your post your thinking of moving to Ga. I have lived in the Buford ( mall of Ga area) and suwanee area too. Both are nice BUT very crowded. They have redone both "downtown" areas to help bring back the small town feel but it has grown so fast the roads (traffic) cannot keep up. I would suggest looking at Jackson county. Great schools, easy commute to Atlanta, only 15 minutes north of Mall of Georgia, great home median prices and small town feel with city convience ( right on i85, Atlanta airport in 45 minutes, in low traffic time)!
Peachtree city is also very nice but once you leave the "neighborhood" your in the hood! Peachtree city itself is great, nice homes and shopping but the jobs are not there and you would have to commute to I85 and it is not close to the highway. I have lived in Ga for 18 years and have always perfered northeast sub.
Good luck and if you have any other questions I will be happy to help you out!
That's exactly the type of things I was hoping to hear about.
We drive from IL too; a bit west of Becky, but a similar route.
