Fastpass+ is stressful!!!

I have been checking the "My Disney Experience" app and site daily to see if we are eligible for magic bands and Fastpass+ and we finally are! However trying to plan Fastpass attractions and times is actually much more stressful than I expected!  I am thinking to Fastpass attractions in the afternoon/evening when things might be busier than at rope drop on days I don't anticipate a struggle in the AM and then in the AM for days I think we will sleep in a bit... I have only attempted the first day so far and have changed it five times already!!!!

Any advice or tips? M'Shel, did you/will you use Fastpass+

Oh, boy, Melissa! I can understand the stress.  As exciting as it is to be able to use the FP+ (and I'm sooo happy that you can!! Cool about the Magic Bands and all!!) - I can see second guessing myself.   From my understanding  you should also be able to change your FPs even while you're at the parks, if you'd like, is that right?  I agree with the reasoning you have of getting FPs for busy afternoons or lazy mornings - makes sense to me.

I was listening to the Passporter Moms Podcast and they were talking about using the My Disney Experience for their trip that they're on on right now.  They had a hard time coordinating FP+ times with each other, even though they are traveling as a group.  They had some complaints about the overall system - I guess Disney is still working out the bugs.  Are you finding it difficult b/c you've been changing your mind or b/c the system isn't easy to work with?

The site is not giving me too much trouble. It is a little slow when you make changes and a little tough to get times you are looking for but overall it is ok. It lets you know if a Fastpass time interferes with dining which is helpful.  I had a little trouble making reservations for rides that only two of us will ride but I did figure it out.  It also seems like there are many new attractions with Fastpass now which may be throwing me off as well...I don't remember there being Fastpass at Nemo, Figment, Playhouse Disney, Magic Carpets... Although on the flip side I did Fastpass Fantasmic so maybe we will finally get to see that! As for making changes while there, the site says you can as long as Fastpass+ times are available so it seems that there are a different number of + passes available vs those in the park.

I found some parks easier than others to figure out what we wanted... Epcot was easy (Soarin, Test Track, and Mission Space) but I still haven't figured out day one in Magic Kingdom yet!

Wow! Interesting! Every year I think making ADRs will get easier but it's always a puzzle to figure out how to fit it all in (just finished doing that). Now I'll have to figure FP+ too! Yikes! Interesting to see how the Fantasmic FP works as well as fireworks/parades.

The Fastpass for Fantasmic requires you to arrive between 5:55 and 6:15 for a 6:30 show... I am hoping it lets us skip the line because I find that daunting with little kids! I read a review of wishes Fastpass and it seemed as though a roped area was used but the reviewer felt it could get very crowded! We avoid fireworks but I looked for the option and it was not there for me... Neither was the Fastpass for Be Our Guest lunch :( and that one I desperately wanted!!!

Hmmm...wonder why some things are available for FP+ but not others. Is it b/c they are still in the rolling out phase or could all the FPs be gone for those experiences? Hope that you get to do BOG for lunch...it is beautiful in there.

Oh, I feel your pain and I'm not even there yet... looking toward our 60 days with both excitement and dread, lol! I was thinking of basically the same strategy that you mentioned, but I've already changed (and changed back again) our ADRs several times, I can't even imagine what adding FP times is going to do!

I was thinking originally that they said a certain percentage would be held back for day-before or same-day reservations, but I can't remember... I'm hoping that's the case because I see us doing a lot of last-minute changing, lol!

It was VERY hard choosing for me, too!  However, one night we got in around 10 and knew that we couldn't be ready for EMH at 8 am the next day, so I switched DHS with MK.  That meant that I had to switch FP+ too!  However, I didn't have a problem getting what I wanted, but it was time consuming.

Here's one thing I found.  One morning we were in the park and had used our first FP+.  I decided (based on low wait times) that we didn't need a FP for one of our attractions that we had FP+ for, so I went to my smartphone to change it.  Nope.  Once you've used the first one, you can't change the rest of them (apparently).  That was a little discouraging.

And like you said, it's difficult to choose.  I also made the mistake of getting mine too close in time which seemed like a good idea at the time.  However, I hadn't thought about us not wanting to criss cross the park!  But we did it so that we didn't waste our FP's.  I also discovered that there's a little leeway if you're late.  Our first night, our plane was late, and it took FOREVER to check in at POR.  So we were an hour later getting to Epcot than I had planned.  We totally missed the first FP attraction and were 15 minutes late for Soarin'.  I decided to beg Smile.  I went to the desk and explained about our lateness, and the CM said that we were ok because we were within the leeway time (forgot the word she used).  Well, we took advantage of that at least 2 more times!  It was so crowded, too, that it took longer to do anything.

One thing I didn't try was to get a regular FP.  I thought of it one day, but I didn't have our tickets with us (only MagicBands), so I wasn't able to do it.  And at least one attraction (sorry, can't remember which!) had already taken out their FP machines.  It looks like eventually you will HAVE to do everything online since I believe the machines will all be a thing of the past in the future.  It's different, that's for sure LOL!

Oooo, I had not read that you could not change your FP times if you already used the first one...that's good to know! And, I booked most of mine as close together as Disney would allow...I wonder if that is a bad idea...i am sure we move slower than you and your daughter do, M'Shel!

I am getting excited to see how I like it! A friend was there in mid October and LOVED the bands/Fastpass+, I wonder if I will feel the same.

Melissa, I didn't ASK anyone if that's the way it worked, but that was my experience (it wouldn't let me change).  I had heard that there would be plenty of people hanging around with iPads to help you.  I never saw anyone like that.  And the one person standing at the Fastpass+ "stands" (wish I'd taken a picture of them), didn't seem to know much.  Like when I asked if I could use my hard ticket to get a regular FP, he said he thought I could.  Well, I would have preferred a definite answer lol!
