First aid kit?
| Wed, 04-11-2007 - 1:37pm |
I'm building my First Aid kit for our trip for DH & I and DS (8) and DD (6)
We have Polysporin, moleskin, children's tylenol, children's benedryl, allergy meds, ibuprophen, bandaids, SPF50 sunscreen, bug spray.....

I'm going to cry. My computer just ate my post. It's been a long time since it did
The only items I'd add that I haven't seen in this post yet are chapstick and eye drops. Not everyone needs eye drops, but DH and I wear contacts, and sometimes the rides dry them out. Ditto on our lips!
I also love the self-heating Thermalcare pads and usually throw a few of those in the medicine bag also, but I don't bring them to the parks.

Don't forget some Immodium! I have found that I am less likely to need something if I take it with us. After a couple of trips with kids, DH has quit making comments about me taking the entire medicine cabinet with us and actually asks if I have all the medicines I need. I'd also carry some cold medicine for your kids. We have had a hard time finding the right combination of cold meds for kids when traveling.

I also have a medicine bag full of everything that I take whenever we travel. It's always ready to go with the immodium, children's pepto, gas medicine, sudafed, etc. I also bring canker sore medicine and a digital thermometer. It's pretty big though, and I leave most of it in the room. What is challenging for me is paring that down for the parks. I like to be ready for anything....but then again, a person can only carry so much in a backpack! My big Disney challenge is not overpacking. I'm getting better as the years go on, but I still have a ways to go. :) Like you though, I notice that if I pack it, I don't need it.....which is why you just have to bring the immodium and rain ponchos....
I love Sonya's idea of using a soap dish. I'm definitely going to try that for our next trip.

I also need to bring Dramamine for my family. I know they have a non-drowsy formula and I think they might be chewable.
Also, a tip I learned from a beach vacation - we put on the regular SPF lotion before we leave the condo/hotel, but I take the spray on type with us for reapplications. Not the pump spray, but the newer mist-type spray - LOVE it! It's much faster and easier. We also take a sport sunscreen stick for faces - it doesn't seem to run into their eyes when they sweat or get wet.
One thing I always pack when I take my kids anywhere is a thermometer.
We learned the hard way to always have immodium with us. We were in a hotel and my then 6 year old started vomiting at 10pm and then alternated with diahrreah all night long. We had chewable pepto but it didn't help at all. The poor kid was miserable.
Now I never leave home without chewable tylenol and immodium. Also usually bring baggie of bandaids, small bottle of purell, kids bug bite treatment, and sudafed.
