firs tof all, take a deep breath!!!

OK, it is a bit confusing hte first time you fly!!!

In your carry on, you should have jus thte thing syou will need within the first few hours of your first day there, a change of clothing for all children (yes, if they have a ticket, they each get a carry on, too!) and if you are travelling with small children at the very least a shirt change for you, too.

Medications MUST be in the original package with a name that matches the ticket holder and in a separate QUART SIZE zip lock (Not a fold over sandwhich bag).

Toiletries travelling with you in your carry on should be limited to what will fit in a QUART SIZED Zip lock bag and no more than 3 OZ bottles (Having 1-2 OZ in a 6 OZ bottle ILL be confiscated, so make sure each container is no more than 3 OZ).

Anything liguid/gel in your CHECKED bags should be put in Zip locks for the sheer reason that they may open/ drip and you cwant to contain the mess.

In your carry on, you may want to have an activity or two (Books, crayons, DVDs and player, mp3 player, cards, play dough, any QUIET toys, what ever age appropriate activity you choose) GUM (There is NO GUM for sale at MCO or at Disney!!) or chewy candies to help with ear pressure, your camera, sunglasses, all travel documents, and possibly swim wear for each member of the family. Diapers, wipes and diaper cream in a gallon sized zip lock (I kept one of these with 3 diapers in it and just tossed that in my park back pack instead of carrying a diaper bag AND a park bag), enough formula, powder, and baby food to get you through the first day, (Pack 5 more diapers than you think you will need on the plane so you will be prepared for an extra long layover, defective diapers or a blow out). SUNSCREEN if you can find a good travel size, otherwise apply before you leave then buy some as soon as you see some a the park! Contact lens case, extra solution and eyeglasses. possibly a snack or two.

You will not have access to your checked bags for several hours unless you decide to get your bags yourself before boarding ME. If your room is not ready when you check in, you can store your extra bags will bell services so you do not have to lug it all to the park with you.

Also know that anything you forget will be available SOMEWHERE. YOur front desk or concierge will be able to locate whatever you need.

FInally check your airlines' web page for specifics. they should have a TSA section somewhere!!

ENJOY!!!

I always check the TSA site the day before we fly. Even though I've flown several times now, the rules can change from day to day....you just never know.

My other advice is to really prep your little one before the security screening. I didn't do such a great job with my twins the first time at almost 3 years of age, and they freaked having to let go of their bags (stuffed animals inside)! Not one of my finer memories.

More tips for children:

Also, little tiny toys or crayons that might roll on the floor during the flight are a big pain in the rear. If you can get toys that more easily stay in one place (lacing toys, stickers, etc.), those might save your sanity. It is not fun to chase toys down the aisle and under the seats in cramped quarters.

As for going through the security line....have you been told you'll have to remove your shoes and jackets? If you have slip-on shoes, it's so much easier.

Even though you don't *have* to put items in ziploc bags in your regular luggage, I also highly recommend it. They are very rough with the bags at the airports, and the last thing you want is something leaking all over your clothing. I had a friend in college that had this happen on a flight over to CA, and it was a terrible mess.

I hope your flight goes well! I bet your kids will love it.

The last time we flew (Sept. 06), a purse, diaper bag or computer bag were not included in the one carry on you could have. So you and young children could have a carry on AND your purse or diaper bag.

Re: the crayons - I've seen (and had at some point) crayons that were flat on one side, I think they were crayola, I've also had some color pencils that were hexagonal in shape. Both either minimized or eliminated the rolling issue. Haven't had them in a while though, so I don't know if they still have them available everywhere.

Another tip on the security screenings - If you can get away with it - wear a bra w/o an underwire, don't wear a belt, and make sure there's no other weird metal things like decorations on pants or tops, bangle bracelets etc.

You've already gotten great advice, a few add'l thoughts on security & carry ons:

  • wear shoes that slip on/off easily, as you'll have to take them off going through security (laces are a BAD idea).
