First week in December?

Hi all! I was here a few years ago, and you were all extremely helpful with everything. There were some key tips I found out from these message boards that made our last trip really special.
We are going back sometime next year, and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about the first or second week in December? Or is November better? I really want to see all the holiday deocorations, etc...., but don't want to go during Christmas week or Thanksgiving. I have tried to search for other threads on this topic, but couldn't find anything, so I apologize if this is somewhere else! I have also read that a lot of people think September is best, because of weather, and less crowds, and I might consider that, although I am really leaning toward December- just whenever the crowds are lightest.
My sister mentioned that the downside to going in Dec. is that the parks are not open as late...not too worried about the cold, don't know why, maybe because we are in Mass. and it always seems to be cold! But if the parks close early and it is too cold to swim back at the hotels, that may be a concern.
Thanks for any help you can give me! PS- my kids will be 12, 10, 8 and 5 if that info is needed.

We went the first week of Dec last year, and it was GREAT! There were some lines, but nothing compared to typical vacation times. We were able to do just about everything we wanted to.
The only downside was the temperature. It wasn't super cold, but colder than we had anticipated, and one day was REALLY cold and windy. I think if we had been better prepared for it, it wouldn't have been so bad, but the forecast had looked much warmer before we left, the cold came pretty suddenly. So my only precaution would be to take a couple of warmer outfits than you think you're going to need so that you're prepared for unexpected weather.

December is better than November. We've been first/second week of December 4 years in a row.
Weather does tend to be unpredictable. First trip was perfect, second was warm (comfortable in shorts), third was HOT...not summer hot, but highs in the 80s in December is hot, and fourth was good temps, but downpours. On our second trip, the week before had freezing temps. So, you HAVE to prepare for a lot of different temps. That's one of the downsides--packing for a Dec trip.
We went in '99 to '02. We NEVER saw crowds. However, I do hear that it gets crowded with the Pop Warner Super Bowl now. So, that stinks.
The parks do close earlier, but there are no crowds, so you don't miss out on the hours. And Epcot is ALWAYS open until 9:30 in the Christmas season. The CP runs 3 times nightly with few exceptions and they don't start Illuminations until 9:30 (9:00 the rest of the year).
It's my favorite time of year to go!
