Getting Sick at Disney

I am taking my youngest DS (9mo) to the doctor tomorrow. We went for a well check last week and picked up something.

My 4 year old has this "fake" cough going on. I think he has a dry throat. It isn't a real sounding cough.

I of course have a whole suitcase full of over the counter meds.

What happens if DS4 ends up really sick and requires a visit to an urgent care?

Has anyone been to any of the facilities around Disney? I would imagine the CM's at the front desk would have info. I just would like to be a little prepared.

Thanks...and pray we are all OK for Sunday's departure. I hate to think months of planning will be clouded with illness, but what can you do?

Sarah, I think only 1 trip out of our 8 we didn't go to the urgent care. ds always seems to get pool water in his mouth, and i really think that's what does it. We've been to the urgent care right outside of DTD (i think you make a left at the light at crossroads, and it right down the road on the left). we've also been to Celebration ER for the same type of illnesses (throwing up, fever, ear pain, stuffed noses, etc). both places are fine. I recall seeing a pediatrician office of some type in a strip mall (maybe it was even crossroads)... there's definitely a BIG business for doctors there! Go to allearsnet-dot-com, i know i found medical info there.

good luck and i hope everyone's well! have a wonderful trip!! Liz :)

I've been to the Urgent Care right outside of DtD. I can't remember the name of it right now though. They were super friendly and given their location, very used to filing with lots of different insurance carriers. We saw a pediatrician, not a reg dr or family dr so that was very nice since it was my 8 mo that we had to take in. (not that a regular dr wouldn't have been fine at that point, but it's always best to see a ped with kids)We didn't wait very long, but since it is urgent care, if your case is not the most urgent you will wait longer than someone with a more serious complaint.

There are typical OTC meds sold at all of the resort gift shops. Even liquid tylenol. I've heard some people say Disney transported them to Urgent Care, but we had our own vehicle so just drove.

When we took our annual trip back in December 2003 my dd, then 3 1/2, started throwing up in the car at the exact moment we entered the WDW gates! I called and made sure our room at The Wilderness Lodge was ready. My dd's temp got up to 104 and the front desk CM's were life-savers. They located a DR. for us that came to our room and he then called in meds for her that were sent right to the WL front desk!
Unfortunately, we ended up leaving the next day since my dd had pneumonia and progressively got worse. We were heartbroken, but Disney couldn't have treated us any better!

Good Luck, Sweetie!
