Going to Disney again - need help!

Hi everyone -
I used this board back in 2008 when we planned our first Disney trip with our son, and everyone was really helpful. He was only 8 months old at the time, so things were pretty easy...

Now, he's almost 3, and we also have an almost-3 month old. We'd like to get to Disney before he turns 3 in late August (23rd to be exact), and make sure we don't have to buy him a ticket/meals etc...but from what I've seen just lurking about, a lot has changed!! (And I've done Disney 7 times now!)

What are ADRs? Advance Dining Res? Also, can someone explain the dining plan? We got it for ourselves last time - but it included the 1 sit down/1 counter/1 snack for the two of us since the baby didn't eat anything yet. I remember thinking at the time that I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for pizza and pasta, but he's a picky eater.

Recommendations for planning? We'll be driving as well, from Wisconsin. I'm hoping to stay at a Value resort unless someone's got a better suggestion, and we may/may not get the dining plan. We'll also be doing park hoppers, obviously.

What's the weather like in August? I know it will be hot...

How are the crowds? Is there anything else someone can think to suggest? Has anyone made such a long drive with two kids? We'll be stopping every 2 or so hours to nurse the baby and stretch legs, go potty, etc. I am planning on buying a portable DVD player as well for the 2 year old...

That's so exciting that you're planning a trip before DS turns three.

What are ADRs? Advance Dining Res? Also, can someone explain the dining plan? ***ADR's are advanced dining reservations. You can make reservations for any WDW sit down meal up to 180 days before your arrival. It's really recommended that you do this because lots of restaurants book up fast and don't really have the space for walk ins. As for the dining plan - the one you had is still the basic plus there is a simpler version that only includes quick service meals and a pricier version with more table service options. Your son will be able to share your meal in any restaurant and eat for free at any buffet but if you want to buy a kids meal for him at counter service or table service you'll have to pay out of pocket. We did this in September when DD was 18 mo and it worked fine - it wasn't too expensive and some places even just brought what I asked for without charging us.

Recommendations for planning?***Plan to use the Baby Care Centers in each park. I know you said DD will be nursing and they have nursing rooms if you don't feel comfortable NIP and they are great for changing diapers (real changing tables rather than the pull down kind)plus they have soap to wash bottles or sippy cups and fresh water if you do need to make formula.

What's the weather like in August? I know it will be hot...****HOT and HUMID!!! Expect temps in the 90's and a quick rain storm almost everyday but the rain doesn't last so don't panic!

How are the crowds?***Later in August isn't too bad because lots of Southern kids have returned to school already.

Is there anything else someone can think to suggest?****In the past Disney has offered free dining in the second half of August - if they are going to again it will be announced probably in the next month or two.

Has anyone made such a long drive with two kids? We'll be stopping every 2 or so hours to nurse the baby and stretch legs, go potty, etc. I am planning on buying a portable DVD player as well for the 2 year old...***I'm going to see if I can find a link to a thread about this recently ... I haven't done it though so I can't offer first hand advice.

I could have sworn I posted a response here but I guess it got eaten up LOL

Welcome back to the board and congrats on your latest addition to the family! You've already gotten some great info here. I just wanted to give you a few links from

Thanks everyone, for the links! They're always helpful, and great for a refresher.

We kicked around renting a vehicle, but really, there's no point considering it would sit all week. So instead, we're just going to make do with our bigger car - the double stroller takes up most of the trunk, but we are just going to take a few duffel bags instead of suitcases. I figure I'll have to do laundry anyway, so no biggie!

My husband and I keep repeating to each other an old Disney commercial.." I'm too excited to sleep!"

Thanks again!
