Guest Assistance Card???

We've just made reservations for a "Grand Gatherings" trip in June 07.There will be 1 set of grandparents and 2 families --2 kids in each. One of the grandkids -- a 6 yr old boy -- has Aspergers Syndrome compounded by ADHD. I'm confused as to the benefits of the GAC that I have read about. Is it worth our while to get one? And will it apply only to his immediate family or our entire group of 10 if there is a special entry or whatever involved? I want the trip to be as "painless" as possible for ALL the participants. I don't want one set of my kids to feel the other is either "special" or a burden. Will the GAC help alleviate rough situations?

Thanks for the feedback.

You'll need a doctors note to get the Guest Assistance Card -especially since the reason for needing it is not visually obvious.

Hi
We get a GAC every year for our severely disabled dd (10). You can get a dr. note but they probably won't look at it. You need to go to Guest services.. we go to the Town Hall @ MK and explain your child's needs. They will then give you a GAC if you qualify for up to 6 people in your party including the child for your length of stay.
Being DVC members, we go every year at least once so we just hang on to our GAC ... take it back to guest services and they issue the same card for that stay too.
You don't necessary get any "special" treatment or faster access. They will just have you wait in an area that is less crowded than the regular area. We waited for Dumbo last trip for a 1/2 hour in the scrouching sun. :o(
If you want more info... go to disboards.com and visit the disabilities forum. Loads of good stuff and tips for visiting the kingdom with our "special" kids.
Have fun!
