We're planning a trip to WDW, but we can't decide on WHEN.

The week before Easter and the week after Easter will be MUCH worse. I'd say end-Feb to mid-Mar (give or take a few weeks like Pres Day week) isn't really bad at all UNLESS you've been at a much slower time, then you realize how much busier it is. We went the week after Pres Day 3 years ago and it was busy but not nearly as busy as our July trips. However, our 5 most recent trips up to that time had been in Sept and early Dec, so we were SPOILED!

Peak season for Disney where you'll see higher crowds and pay through the nose for your resort is mid February to late April. Like Alysha said the crowds will be icky thick the week before and after Easter with a spike near Presidents Day and Mardi Gras. The rest of that time it will be more crowded than January or Sept-early December, close to but not quite summer crowds.

If you don't want to take the kids out of school and their spring break isn't around Easter you should be fine crowd wise but your resort will cost more. Summer crowds will be a bit higher, but the resorts are cheaper. If your kids have a fall break that's the ideal time. Resort rates are at their lowest, chances of discounts are higher and crowds are lower.

The worst is winter break between Christmas and New Years though. Huge prices and large shoulder to shoulder crowds. Careful planning is needed for that week.

Ironically, according to the spring break calendar http://www.tripsmarter.com/panamacity/springbreak/sbcalendar.htm

The week after Easter this year will be the lightest between mid-Feb and mid-April, with Pres Day week being the second-lightest. How weird is that.

But this calendar will give you an idea of how many college students are out for their spring breaks. Why does that matter with Disney??????

Well, schools tend to follow the same spring break as colleges, AND the bigger the university population, usually the bigger the school populations.

President's Day is always the third Monday in February. This year, Mardi Gras falls on the same week and almost every Louisiana school is out for a minimum of 2 days, a lot for the whole week. Louisiana has a LARGE population of Disney-goers. At one time, Louisiana was the state with the highest percentage of Disney guests or highest percentage per capita (I don't remember which) from any state outside of Florida.

According to this calendar, the worst weeks will be the first 2 weeks of March.

I think one week we'll get a quote on is the week after Pres Week Sun Feb25-Sat Mar3 and another will be March Break week for us Sun Mar11-Sat Mar 17 (still pretty much early March, right).
