How do they check the age?

At both Disney and Sea World, the ticket prices are age 10 and up for adult pricing. I don't like to lie, but how do they check? DS will be 10 in July and we are going in August. He is small and weighs less than 55 lbs. He could pass for eight.

Again, I hate to be dishonest, but I can't believe my little guy will be charged full price!

Thanks, all.

My biggest issue is with the buffet meals. My daughter is 11 but she is very picky and does not eat anything!! She will eat about 3 chicken fingers from the kids section and that is IT...So it is very annoying to pay and adult price for her. It is bad enough they dont even offer decent kids meals (like a basic cheeseburger or chicken strips instead of the disgusting nuggets NO ONE eats) at the fast food counter service places and we have to buy adult meals for our 4 kids, but I admit we have "Disney ages" for the buffets and my 11 y/o becomes 9. I know this is the last time I will get away with it since she is getting big...I do get an adult ticket for her, though.

I didn't read all the responses in detail but here is my side:

My best friend's sister worked the ticket gate during her college intership at Disney. And from what she told me (this was about 7 years ago) Disney's stance is to not question the child's age at the gate. She said she had some obviously 5 year old children being carried in and told her they were under 3. Disney probably thinks of the ages as "guidelines" rather than set in stone (my opinion). I can't give advice for Sea World though.

If you buy the tickets in advance just buy the 3-9 ticket. I doubt anyone would ask at the gate and that way the child doesn't have to lie as he knows nothing about it.

omg, i'm cracking up picturing someone carrying a 5yo saying they're 3yo. they'd have to really be a ''peanut'' for that to look even somewhat believable. I'm glad you got to offer that side your friend told you. i can see where it's hard for disney, and it's hard for the guests. thanks for sharing that.

LOL LOL LOL

Great one!

We went to a plantation home with Girl Scouts in March and they have BEAUTIFUL live oak trees. The tour guide said one was over 600 years old and then asked how we thought they know that. Of course, someone (high school Girl Scout) said, "You cut the tree and count the rings!"...He said, "Y'all are tree haters! That'll kill the tree!"...lol. (They count the number of limbs from an area and measure the length and the circumference of the limbs or something scientifical like that...lol).
