How do you plan a short trip?

We are (well, I am anyway) thinking about trying to go to WDW for a VERY short trip so we can do MVMCP. We got DS' school schedule for next year the other day, and he's off Nov 15th and 16th; we could leave after school on the 14th and drive part way, finish up the drive the next morning, or possibly drive straight through (we'll see how that goes in May, lol). Anyway, there is a rumor that there will be MVMCP on the 15th and 16th, so we would do one of those. We would be staying 4 nights and leaving for home Tuesday morning. We will have 3 day tickets and the dining plan for convenience of saving and because we don't like much counter service.

How do you plan a trip that short? Our honeymoon was the same length, but we didn't plan anything, and we missed a lot. We would obviously have to leave something out, but what? I'd love to see the Christmas decorations, if they are out yet. Where do you start? I guess I'm spoiled, the other 3 trips I've planned have been at least 8 days.

Any help appreciated.

Hey C, good to see you!

I saw something about Jersey week on another board, that post (hopefully right, lol) said JW was the week ending on the 12th, so before we get there. I didn't think about Veterans Day though. It's really going to be our only shot for MVMCP; I had thought before about T-giving week, the whole week, I think that would be worse. This way we'll be leaving first thing that Tuesday.

I have to convince DH first; this would be 3 trips from Feb to November; he's already said he wants to go to the beach next year instead. Men! I can do this trip for about the same price as going to the beach for a week, but I'm going to have to be the one to work more hours and save for it. I don't think he really wants to go, and I won't go without him; not a 14-hour drive with two kids by myself, no thanks!

I saw somewhere (allears? I don't remember now, and it was only a little while ago) that the Osborne Lights started 11/13 last year, so we'd have to do that too. It would probably be that one night, MK one day and Epcot one day, but I'd like to see the parade at AK. My problem is I am not good and choosing one thing over another; I want to do it ALL! I guess that's why we have 12 sit down meals for our 8-day trip in May? Probably.

Choices stink, but I will be happy to choose, if we just can go.

Steph,

You really don't want to hear what I have to say. :) We are going Thanksgiving week. I am tied down due to the school schedule. We just did what our favorites were in our January trip. It wasn't too crowded. I still feel like we got a lot done!

*****Money saving tip****** If you are considering going again upgrade your tickets! You don't have to pay for park hopping if you have an Annual Pass. Dh and I purchased AP's in January for our trip. We will get at least fourteen days use out of them! Just something to think about............

Try picking a "theme" or purpose for your trip. That will help you narrow your choices down and help you prioritize.

We did a short trip like that last fall. We decided we were going to try to do all the things we had never done or hadn't done for a long time and anything that was new/updated since our last trip. Then we each picked a favorite in each park that we wanted to be sure to do. And we did MNSSHP.

You could say we're doing just favorites, or just shows, or just things we missed last trip, just thrill rides or just slow rides. Or maybe just one park, but in depth - except for seeing the Osborne lights and MVMCP. Of course it doesn't have to be JUST that, but it gives you a starting point and then anything else you work in is a bonus.

With a trip that short you probably will have to leave out a park or really skimp on one. We left out AK which was hard to do since we hadn't done Everest yet. But dd wasn't sure she wanted to do it and I knew we all wanted to do Soarin. Dh is so into Star Wars now and they'd never done Star Tours. And of course we couldn't not go to MK so thats how AK lost.

Having another trip in the plans always helps to pass on a few things, you can say we'll be sure to get it next time.
