Ahhhh, I booked our first vacation to Disney... our first family vacation ever (since having kids)!!
Ok, I was going to book for the end of April, however, with these freakin awesome deals I just *had* to get in on them for this year, LOL! So, we are going 12/18-12/23 2006!!!!! :D
DH wasn't *too* ecstatic about the change... but my 4 year old is already packing, LOL... he's soooooo geeked!
Ok, now the questions...
I'm pregnant and due Oct. 7th (will get the c-section date this coming monday though)... so our baby will be about 2.5 months old when we go - am I NUTS???? Is travelling with a young infant to disney a good idea? Please tell me it's easy and it's been done before, LOL!
Also, I booked our flight through Disney as well and the only non stop flight on the 18th didn't arrive there until 5:30ish pm... I'm kinda bumming about that! So we'll land about 5:30 - when will we be IN MGM??? (that's the park that's open late that day, until 10pm)... I have no idea how long it will take when we touch down until we get to check in at our airport, but I'm sure someone would know ;) Also, we are planning counter service dinner at pizza planet for my 4 yo's sake - how long are the counter service places open in the parks???
And.... I do have a stroller, but I think I'd rather carry the baby in some type of sling. What would you recommend for a 2.5 month old?? I have a baby bjorn, a fleece pouch, a ring sling, and a wrap! I will probably bring them all, lol... but just wondering from experience if anyone might know what would be best at that age!
TIA for all your help!!!!!! Oh, our trip is only $2200.00 - that includes our hotel at pop century, 5 days of tickets, the disney dining plan (so tax & gratuity) & our airfare!!! I thought that was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!! especially since they have "specials" of 1500.00 that only include a value resort & tickets (yes, that does include an extra day, but it didn't include food or airfare)!!!
I'm soooooooooo excited!!!!!!!

To be honest, your best bet the day you arrive is to relax at the pool or check out downtown disney. If you land at 5:30, by the time you get to the resort and to your room it will be after 7. Maybe later. Last year we got there at 2 and went to downtown disney for a few hours, ate dinner at the resort and took a dip at the pool. We all went to sleep early to get ready for our first full day there.
Loved the baby bjorn, but you need to use what you are comfortable with! NEver did Disny with a newborn, but have seen many do it. I bet it is easier than with a just turned 2 year old! Since you have a 4 yo, I recommend using the disney stollers. They are huge and your 4 yo may get tired and grumpy!
I just did the park with a 4 month old and a Baby Bjorn.
December is our favorite time to travel, and I've been 7 pg (in Sept humidity) with an 8 mo, and with a 12mo, 23mo, and 7 yo. Disney with an infant is easy easy. Because the weather is so agreeable in Dec I never used the baby center when middle ss was 8 mo, so I have no personal experiance with them, but everyone raves about them.
Thank you so much for your replies!!! We did buy a nice stroller recently specifically for Disney, lol! It's an umbrella stroller, that reclines, and holds up to 50lbs!! Also, it has extendable handles since I'm 5' & dh is over 6'!!! And it's so lightweight! Can't wait to use it :D
You are right, we are going to be flying out of Detroit (although we have a stupid 10 hour drive to get to Detroit)!!! I think it's a 2-2.5 hour flight! Thanks for letting me know what time we'd arrive at Disney, I didn't realize it would take that long... We do have 5 day tickets, and I was hoping to take Alex to Pizza Planet for dinner that evening... but I won't promise him that... thanks for the advice :)
I appreciate the replies... we are so looking forward to this (well, at least me and Alex are... dh is still on the fence about it, LOLOLOL)!

Congratulations! I'm due in October too, 10/31 to be exact! Do you post to the October board? I do.
No! You're not nuts! We're doing the same thing in January.
*We've done it before and found it rather easy. We travel quite often, whether for a weekend trip or a week long vacation. Our family motto (for traveling w/infant) is: have diapers, have sling, have mom....Lets Go! I'll be nursing (I nursed our older daughters too.) so we have no formula, extra water, or mixing mishaps to deal with.
* I recommend a sling for your baby! We'll be using one too, it's a Maya Wrap. If you're planning on nursing, it's easy to do so discreetly. Even while standing in line waiting for a ride! We also plan on taking an umbrella stroller, for our 3yr old.
I'm excited for you Michelle! We're staying at Pop Century too in late January.
Warmly,
Kathleen

Oh cool, your new baby will be about the same age when you go as mine is when we are going! I'm glad I'm not nuts, lol! No, I don't post on any EC clubs, I could never get into them when I had my first son - so I didn't even try this time, lol!
So you recommend the ring sling... I have my kissasling that I bought with my son 4.5 years ago (just tried tie-dying it pink, haha)!! I was thinking the bjorn would be very comfy for both her and I, but harder to nurse with a bjorn than a ring sling! Thanks for the advice!

Congrats to your trip and your new addition!!
We just got back with our 3 DK's - DD (10-21-00), DD )6-2-02) and DS (6-22-05) and we ended up bringing the double stroller, the HotSling AND renting a double stroller 3/6 days there!!
"Our stroller" was used mostly for "Stuff" storage, and we used hte front for the baby. The rental was nice (And easy to steer even one handed!) for easy in and out for hte tired older kids. The sling was GREAT for waiting in lines and walking between rides that were close together. Even in the heat, we were MUCH more comfy than not having the sling. We were even able to sling him and still get a Mickey poncho on when the rain hit (Sling hte baby, put my head int he head part and "opposite" are throughte poncho like nirmal, then put the baby's head through the top of the arm hole near the shoulder, and snap it around him. Put on a floppy hat, and he was nice and protected, too!
Be aware that it is slower going with young kids, but truthfully, the baby didn't slow us down as much as the 4 YO did!!
Enjoy!!
~Elena (Just back from 6 days, already trying to squeeze a 10 day into the budget SOON!)
