Ok, so I am planning a trip to Disney for next Christmas. It's sort of a family reunion. My husband is in the military and is in Afganistan for 13 months. My family is on the east coast, so we don't see them very much and we are all going as a reunion/christmas gift.
The board is helpful and a start to trying to plan, but I am lost on some of the abbreviations. Like what is ADR's? I try to figure them out, but just don't get it. Anyone have any idea? I am starting fresh, and would apprechiate any tips or thoughts about planning, what to do, and how to get more for my money (I'm a big saver)any discounts would help too :o)
Thanks in advance...
Carrie

Hi, Carrie! Welcome to the board. My name is Melissa and my DH is also in Afghanistan and will be coming home in 7 weeks (woo hoo!). I love the idea of a reunion after his deployment is over. DH and I are going to DW after he's home too (during block leave).
ADR's are Advanced Dining Reservations (I hope those are the right words) but it means that reservations were made for meals. They can be done 180 days before your arrival.
As for saving money "Shades of Green" (a military resort/hotel) might be something to look in to. It was booked when I looked into our vacation though.
I know everyone will have lots of great ideas for you!
Hope all is well!
Melissa
Congrats on your trip! From what I hear, Christmas at Disney World is beautiful and busy. It is a good thing you are starting early :) Check out this link to a post about common abbreviations. Have fun planning.

Melissa,
Thank you so much for responding... I know that the shades of green also offers a R&R package at deep discounts. It was at the top under promotions or specials. I emailed to ask, and the woman responded with the info. It included rooms and some meals at a deep discount. It's worth a try to save some $. When is your husbands block leave?
I don't know if you know this but, Anhueser Busch (sp) offers free entry to their parks which include sea world, busch gardens etc. It's called hero salute, and you go online put in your info, and print out a form that you take to the gate. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll send you the link.
Also, I'm a jersey girl too! What part of Jersey are you from?
Thanks again for the info :o)
Carrie
Hi, Carrie. First I was born in Secaucus (most of my family is there still) but my parents moved us to East Brunswick when I was three. I stayed there until I was 20 (when I married Mark). Where in NJ are you from?
As for the hero salute.....we used it during his R&R and took our niece to Sesame Place. OMG we had a BLAST! His 2 1/2 weeks of R&R were single best 2 weeks we have spent together in the 13 years we've been together. We went to Ocean City, Maryland for 5 days, went to NYC and stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, had a large BBQ down the shore at my Grandma's house, went to Sesame Place, etc, etc. I just loved every moment of seeing him.
Mark's block leave is March 24- April 23rd. We are going to Disney April 14-21st. I told him we are staying at the Pop Century but really we are staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort. I can't wait to pull up there and trick him, lol.
I am sure we will "chat" more, lol.
Melissa,
Small world... I am from South Jersey, (10 minutes from Philadelphia, near Cherry Hill. We did the hero salute and went to Sesame Place back in 2004 when my husband Rob, went to Iraq. When we visit, we have to go Ocean city, and Wildwood. My husband and I were Married in Maryland.
What a nice surprise for your husband :o)
