Love bugs

OH my gosh. I just realized that September is love bug season in Florida and that is when we are going. I have a ridiculous and unfounded fear of insects and I am so nervous. Has anyone ever dealt with this problem and please tell me I am overreacting?

Yuck.

Honestly some seasons are worse than others. I won't lie, there was a period last year where it was awful! Then again, the few years before it was extremely mild.

Sorry I can't really offer much. I remember seeing them on our May trip and our Sept trip but not in large quantities, so they never bothered us.

We live in Florida, so just as Sonya said, some seasons are bad and some are light. They don't bother you, but they will land on you. When we were there last year, we didn't really see a lot of them at the parks, but when we were waiting for the boat at Wilderness Lodge to take us to MK, they were everywhere on the dock. Possibly an attraction to the water. You could check to see if insect repellents would keep them off your skin.

My kids use to scream when they landed on them, now they just brush them off their skin. You could also wear light weight long sleeve shirts.

Good luck - Ashli

Agreeing with everyone on the seasons. In fact, April is usually bad for us in Louisiana (I think our April is worse than our Sept), and we passed a car wash yesterday about an hour away from home with a sign that said, "Wash off bugs-$10". It was then that I realized I haven't seen the first one.

Remember that they don't bite. And avoid white clothes as they are attracted to white.

love bugs? eww. As I haven't been to Florida in quite a few years, I don't remember if I've ever seen those. Is May one of the bad bug times then? I hate bugs but if they don't bite at least that's one less thing to worry about. I have a baby with really bad ezcema and having to load her up with sunscreen and bug repellent scares the heck out of me. We're not sure how buggy it is down there in May. Up here in New England, we don't have to worry until (usually) June or later.

Too bad there isn't an EWWWWWWWW icon! We were there last September and I have to be honest -- they were everywhere. The worst was when we'd leave the stroller to go on a ride and come back to a bug infestation. Fortunately my kids weren't really afraid of them and I agree with a previous poster -- they seemed more plentiful when we were near water, like by Splash Mountain in MK. They don't bite, so their more annoying than anything else. Certainly didn't ruin our trip.

OK. I am officially freaked out. DH is getting irritated with me for worrying about. He keeps telling me to repeat to myself "I am not going to let a bunch of mating insects ruin our vacation"

I live in Chicago so I am just not used to seeing swarming bugs like that. Don't get me wrong, I have seen monster roaches in the city a handful of times but that is it!
