Magic Bands - what's the current status?

We're thinking about a short trip next month - right after school gets out on May 21st.  (Not sure yet if we'd go over Memorial weekend or wait until Tuesday or so for slightly lower crowds.)  I'm wondering about magic bands, though.  We still have No-Expiration tickets, so we won't be buying new tickets.  They're paper (not RFID - just paper).

How does this work?  If we stay at Disney, I'd guess we'd get Magic Bands - except we won't be buying tickets - so would they link them up when we get there?  Or could we type in our ticket info ahead of time online to link them?  If we don't stay at Disney, do we still get Magic Bands?

Is there some option besides the bands - like converting them to RFID (like credit cards)?

I'm so confused...

Fun! I wish I had more info but I don't. I have read that you can now purchase magic bands if you are an offsite guest and I believe all older ticket media needs to be transformed to the kind with the RFID chip in it. Whatever you decide I would plan on allocating some time to figure it out at guest relations before trying to enter a park!

Hopefully someone with actual experience helps you but just wanted to say have fun!!! :)

You should be able to link the tickets to your account, and then they will be on your MBs when you go. If you log into the Disney World website (or on the MDE app if you use it) there is a place to link tickets. Just enter the number that is printed on the paper ticket and it should be there. (Key word - "should", lol!) Ours seemed to be linked fine, but still gave us trouble at the gate so there's no garuntee, but theroetically it should work anyway Smile

When Meredith and I went in Oct., I linked our paper tickets that I had bought from Undercover Tourists through the MyDisneyExperience website with no problems.  Then when we checked in POR, we were given plastic cards, too, as a back-up.  Fortunately, we never had to use them.

My friend just got back last week from WDW and stayed offsite.  She bought her tickets through UT, too.  I will ask her how it worked.
