Magical Express and getting luggage

I know this is something that has been discussed before.... We are using Magical Express in August and I just got my yellow tags. I was explaining it to dh and how the bags will arrive after us. We land at 1pm and our plan is to hang at the pool, explore the hotel and then go to our 5:45 ADR at Ohana. I'm planning on bringing a small carry on suitcase with bathing suits and fresh clothes for dinner. Hoping the bags will be there by the time we return from dinner.

Dh looks at me and says "how come we can't just get our own bags and bring them with us to the bus?"

What are the thoughts on this? Has anyone done that with their bags? Has anyone witnessed a problem with people doing this? Would they just put the bags underneath the bus, and we claim them when we get to our resort?

I'm not really stressing about this. Just want to figure out the best thing for us to do.
Thanks for ideas.

Hmmmm....interesting question! My husband and I are with your husband....no reason you can't skip the ME tag, get your luggage, and take it on the bus yourself. That's the way it works when you go back home if your airline isn't "participating" with ME. I can't remember anyone standing in the ME line with luggage though.

We're not sure why you'd WANT to do it, since we loved having our stuff all delivered to the room......but then again, we didn't have anywhere to be that first evening. I think your plan of fresh clothes in a carry-on and then waiting for your luggage would be mine. There's just something about not having to wait on your bags in Orlando that is really, really cool. :)

You could, they just put them underneath, mom had to do that, but like Laurie said - why? Why would you want to mess with baggage claim if you don't have to? ME just makes things easier when you step off the plane. If you put the yellow tags on your luggage they never even go to baggage claim. They go straight from the airplane to Disney's trolley and from that trolly to their bus and then on to your resort. Average wait time for luggage in your room is 3 hours from when your plane lands to delivery. So chances are high that you'll have your luggage before time to leave for dinner, but having a change in your carry on is a safe bet.

You absolutely CAN do this, but why stand in line for up to an hour waiting for your bags, locate them all, wander back through the airport with them, then stand in line more to transfer them youselves to to your resort on your bus for you? (Plus then you will nee dto tip the ME driver for helping your with your bags - your tip is included when the luggage guys do it for you, if you can believe that!)

Can you tell I'm a fan of just having ME do this for you? Last year we arrived, walked to the ME line, got to our resort under an hour later, we were all set to have bell sevices store our carry ons and then hit the parks!! BUT our room was ready, so we stored our carry ons in our room THEN hit the parks.

When we got back a few hours later, our bags were waiting for us.

Maybe its because we travel with small kids that just want to get there without having to wait a minute longer then neccessary, but we LOVED this free service!!

Hi Laura,
My first thought is, it all depends on when you get your room. We also just got our yellow tags. We will be arriving at about 11am and checking in early. BUT there's no guarantee to get your room before 3pm, so what would be the benefit of having your luggage there without a room, kwim?

I totally agree with the pps that you should take advantage of the luggage service with Magical Express.

Yep, I agree with the others. We've done it both ways (before ME was available and since they started doing it) and ME is soooooo much easier. For us, our luggage was in our rooms before we got there, but I understand that sometimes there is a wait. So we did just want you suggested - packed a carry on with anything we might need that first day/evening, including a change of clothes for everyone, bathing suits, a few toiletries (making sure they were allowed in carry-on luggage!) and the camera, which we would've carried on anyway.

Enjoy your trip!!!!

You may not even get your room by 3 p.m., so do you really want to have to deal with luggage? We weren't able to check into our room until around 4, which wasn't a big deal, but I was very grateful to only have our carry-on luggage.

If I were you, I'd pack swimsuits, a little suncreen (you're limited to 3 oz by TSA regulations), and your dinner clothes in a carry-on and let ME handle the bags. If your room isn't ready, you can use the locker rooms in the fitness center to change, depending on your hotel.

>>a little suncreen (you're limited to 3 oz by TSA regulations)>>

We just bought sunscreen at the hotel's gift shop. Yes, it's a little more expensive, but then we didn't have to deal with trying to figure out the 3 oz thing, lol.

Oooh now i'm getting excited to hear people talking about having actually done what I'm hoping to do: A suitcase full of food...(I'm planning on cereal and dehydrated milk for in-room breakfasts, and trail mix and granola bars and dried fruit for our wait packs...but what else?!?) Tell me more details, please!

Also, more info about the 3oz limit please? TIA
