First, I have seen the term "knim" used here. What does it stand for, it seem to be something along the lines of "Know what I mean", just curious lol.
Also, I have searched out Florida weather on several sites and it seems to be the wettest month of the year. But just how wet is it? I just have this looming feeling of a very wet trip and rides closed all of the time not to mention alot of time spent in our cabin. Looking for a little enlightment here! I know it is hurricane season so you just never know what may head that way but just as a rule what should I expect?
I figure if it really is that bad I can atleast plan around it by bringing activities to the cabin for the kids. One more question, just how bad do the T-storms get around that time? My ds (who has Asperger's syndrome) has a VERY hard time with these not to mention his Mommy!
And finally, I had read in a post (but can't seem to find it again) that there is a restaurant that has character breakfast but the dinner is not a character meal. I think it may have been Ohana's, is this true? I booked the dinner but would like the interaction with my ds favorite character stitch. They are so much alike in personalities! Thanks again.

Which mo? You're going July right? Expect an afternoon
Several years ago we drove down to WDW - we got into the hotel and anxiously waited for the weather to show the 5 day forecast...I'll never forget - it showed showers right across the screen for 5 days straight!!! But it actually didn't even rain until the 5th day - so we felt like we really got lucky.
Like Sonya said - it rarely rains for more than an hour or two at a time, and even if it does it won't spoil your fun. Even the swimming pools are open in the rain -unless it thunders then everyone has to get out. I would say leave the umbrellas behind and bring (or buy there) rain ponchos. Disney has clear ponchos that are pretty durable. I think they are around $5. I know some people complain about the price, but I think considering that they could really get you on those (okay it's pouring rain and you're soaked - how much are you really willing to pay!) Once the rain starts the ponchos pretty much appear on the counter of every shop, gift cart etc. It's up to you if you want to buy them before hand and be ready when the rain starts, or just wait until you need them.
People do swarm out of the parks when it rains, if you stay put you may have your best day of the week. The only downfall is that the parades are cancelled...hopefully it won't rain on your parade (sorry, couldn't help it)

Carrie, we went last summer for the last week of june and the first week of july... it showered every day... sometimes for 20 minutes, sometimes for a little longer. One day it rained heavy all day, and maybe 1 or 2 other days it rained for 2 hours or so, where we got out of the pool and stayed out. And believe me, it's so hot, you'll be like "oh goodie! it's raining!" And the parks definitely empty out quite a bit during the rain. a lot of people don't know it's going to stop soon. we didn't even do the ponchos, but we were only in the parks mornings and evenings mostly, not during the afternoon showers (or if we were, they weren't long showers). we were in the pools in the afternoons, and most of the time they made everyone get out because they were concerned about thunder/lightning. but again, it wasn't a big deal at all. my dh LOVED the afternoon showers. we'd sit at the pool bar, get drinks and snacks and wait it out. after it stopped, within 10 or 20 minutes, you wouldn't even know it had just rained.
you mentioned 'cabin'... you're staying at Ft. Wilderness? I'm in the middle of writing my trip report (see the trip report folder below), and we stayed in the cabins the 2nd half of our trip. I think my last 2 reports are cabin reports, and i have a few more days to report on. We loved, loved, loved the cabins and Ft. Wilderness!! I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!!
enjoy the rest of your planning, and don't worry about the rain. dh and i have talked about planning other trips besides disney (gasp!!) but we never book anything because i feel like if it rains for the whole week, most other places there's nothing much to do, but at disney, it really doesn't matter too much if it rains. there's still tons to do!
hth! Liz :)
I'll agree with everyone else on the daily afternoon thundershowers. It doesn't get too bad, but I also don't know your son. Maybe it'd be best to duck into the shops on Main St (they're all connected on each side) if you're at MK, etc. At Epcot, you could spend a good deal of time in Innoventions. At MGM, one of the studio tours (animation, backlot).
The best thing to do at this time (depending on how your son can handle it) is to don ponchos (you can bring your own--Wal-mart & dollar stores sell cheap ones) with a baseball cap (to keep the rain from your eyes) and ride the rides.
For your cameras and anything else that you don't want to get wet, bring ziploc bags in various sizes. Some camera bags may be waterproof. I have a Kolcraft diaper bag ($8) that I use for a camera bag (video + regular + film, tapes, batteries) and it IS waterproof...found that out in the worst way possible! We were at Disney in early Dec 2002 and it downpoured our entire trip (it was great arrival day and departure day...go figure!). I had been very careful to keep the camera bag under my waterproof jacket. But on our last day, it was really, really bad, and the bag ended up getting wet. I just knew we lost everything, but wasn't about to open it yet. Opened the bag when we got to the car and everything was dry...the entire outside of the bag was soaked, I could squeeze the water out! This bag has a silver lining inside and it was zipped, and I'm still shocked that not a drop of water got into the bag.
